If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Can you upload a non-US map in the navigation system?

My frustration continues...

The Hyundai customer service here in South Korea is saying that there is no way to upload the Korean map data into my Genesis 2015. Does anyone know if I can make use of the SD memory slot that is prominently sitting in the center of the console, to upload the Korean map?

If it's some kind of government regulation - as the Hyundai representative here in Seoul is trying to have me believe -, doe anyone know if I can purchase the Korean map data from someone in the US?

Can you explain what this is about? Where was your car purchased and where is it located now?

Edit: Never mind - I see from your post in another thread that you purchased in USA and moved it to Korea. You could try and contact www.mapnsoft.com which supplies updates to US and Canadian Hyundai and Kia vehicles. But I would not get your hopes up.

A South Korean Genesis forum at the portal site NAVER also has this issue raised by a Korean owner who is in the State. But no clear answer is proposed, yet. I will move to South Korea next year with my Genesis, too. I hope there is a clear solution to this issue before then. If you find any answer, please do share it for many. Maybe, Carplay can be the best answer to this issue if it is integrated with HUD (hopefully).

The answer I've found so far is that you can't upload an "official" map from Hyundai. But you can replace the entire navigation system with third-party navigation system.

Hyundai is adamant that such replacement will void the warranty on the entire console.

I don't buy Hyundai's argument that the government prohibits them from making the in-car navigation system compatible between the US and Korean versions. iPhone's navigation is compatible and Android's navigation is compatible.

I think it's just one of many, many hurdles that Hyundai has created to deter Korean expats from bringing in the cheaper exports back to the home country.

Back in 2009, it was reported in the media that people were doing that because the equivalent USA version was $17K cheaper than if bought in Korea.

It is not so surprising that HMC tries not to actively care about Genesis from US in Korea. I heard many first generation Genesis owners who took theirs to Korea had to replace with third-party navigation system. However, if it is the case, I wonder the third party navigation works well with HUD and the other infotainment system.

Interesting post, as I am headed to Germany in the next few months. Will I be able to update my maps to German/European maps?

Probably not. This is from the Hyundai EU map update site:

FAQ

16. Am I able to buy a North American map for my European car?

Unfortunately, you are unable to purchase map products for this region.
http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...View-Static?Page=FAQ&SelectedMenuItem=null#16

Given that, I assume the reverse is also true that you cannot buy a map for EU or Germany on a US model. But here is site for Hyundai US maps:
http://www.mapnsoft.com/

There is always a Garmin, and you can get a portable GPS with free map updates for a little over $100.

Are you in the military or something? How would you get warranty or even non-warranty service done on the car? The warranty is offered by Hyundai Motor America and they usually don't provide service outside of the US. Is there some special arrangement for US military personnel overseas?

I know your question was not directed to me, but I think Hyundai offers "global warranty".

Are you saying that their is "global warranty" for USA military personnel who are overseas?

Normally, for cars sold in the USA, the Hyundai warranty is offered by Hyundai Motor America, not Hyundai Motor Korea (parent company). For one thing, the USA warranty is unique and not the same as other countries.

Well, first off he Maps cannot be updated, only US/Canada are compatible, I called the Map Update provider as well as the Genesis customer service. I forgot to ask The Genesis customer service line about warranty service, but I did ask my dealer service department, they said the Hyundai dealer there could handle all warranty services.. Which is good to hear, but I would like to hear it from Hyunda, or get something in black and white.
And yes, I am retired Army, but my wife is a Department of the Army civilian employee, so we are going there for her assignment.

I found this at Ask.cars.com regarding a USA purchased Hyundai taken to Canada, that needed warranty service in Canada:
http://ask.cars.com/2012/02/if-i-bu...o-canada-are-there-any-warranty-problems.html

Q: If I buy a new Hyundai in the U.S. and import it to Canada, are there any warranty problems?

A: Yes, there would be problems getting warranty work done in Canada on a Hyundai you bought in the U.S. Hyundai Motor America says the U.S. warranty would not be honored by Hyundai Auto Canada, and you would need to take your vehicle to a U.S. dealer to get warranty repairs.

If you could not take your [USA purchased Hyundai] vehicle [back] to a U.S. dealer, and [instead] had warranty work done in Canada, you would have to pay the entire cost, as if the vehicle were out of warranty. You could then seek reimbursement under what Hyundai calls “goodwill consideration,” but the company makes no promises about such requests.

If you were a U.S. resident when you bought the vehicle and later moved to Canada and registered the vehicle there, Hyundai still recommends you have warranty work done by a U.S. dealer. If that isn’t possible, and you can prove you were a U.S. resident when you bought the vehicle, Hyundai will provide warranty coverage under its Canadian warranties.

Keep in mind that some parts might be different between US and European Genesis models, which would complicate matters to some degree. Also, the 2009-2014 Hyundai Genesis was not even sold in Europe, so they might not have any spare parts there, and might be reluctant to order any. Also, the US Hyundai warranty terms are not the same as Hyundai Europe in some cases.

Well, I have been here in Germany for about 4 months, my car has been here for about 3. Just an update, can't use the European Maps, like we said earlier, its a different system.
Still don't have a solid answer about warranty, just hope nothing happens.
I did have a problem getting an oil change, they had one 3.8 AWD Genesis Sedan as a demo, and they only special order the 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD here in Germany. Its about 65K Euro and has many cool features that my 2015 5.0 Ultimate doesn't have. (Rear command center like in the Equus, 360 degree cameras, parallel parking (automatic) to name a few. I went in for an oil change, and they did not have the oil filter in country, they had to special order a 5.0 Oil filter for me, and it took about 3.5 weeks to come in.... other than that, I am loving the 5.0 on the Autobahn! I get many compliments and stares when I drive around here.. still haven't seen another 2015 Sedan over here in Germany yet!

I do! I have a dash cam with some good footage, I just need to download it and get it uploaded!

I was running with two different BMW M3s the other day.. they were "pushing me" until I stepped on the gas.. they see the 5.0 badge and always want to test me....before we split the other driver gave me a head nod of approval and a thumbs up!

Tell us more about your 2015 Rspec.

I did the Army/Germany (Berlin) thing years ago. Enjoyed my BMW 2002 immensely on the Autobahnen.

Just move to Bavaria with my 2015 3.8 SDN. I found a Hyundai dealer in Regensburg- hopefully they can service my vehicle. I can tell you one thing - drives very well in the autobahn & people don’t stop looking at it!
