If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Canada - DRL's not working

Hello everyone,

My 2009 Genesis Sedan has a new issue. I noticed tonight that my DRL's are not on when the stalk is set to "Auto". They've worked in this position all along, but I've recently had some work done that may have led to this - unsure.

My front bumper was taken off to have a wiring harness replaced due to a problem with my front parking sensors chiming all the time, even when nothing was blocking them. This didn't fix this issue, so they replaced the two leftmost sensors completely, which seems to have fixed it. I also had the level/angle of my headlights adjusted recently.

Any chance the dealership screwed something up that would have caused my DRL's to stop working while the lights are in Auto? I've had so many problems with the car lately, I'm feeling a bit defeated.

Again, I'm in Canada, so it's actually illegal to drive without DRL's.

Maybe they disconnected your battery which reset all your settings back to default. Check your menu on the dash and see if the DRL's are turned off.

Thanks Chris. They definitely disconnected my battery, but it seems to have only reset my temp settings (Celsius was switched to Fahrenheit, and I had to switch it back). Is there an option somewhere in the menu for DRL's? I think (at least in the first gen) the only options for this are on the stock itself.

In Canada, all vehicles have DRL's that come on by default. Mine simply aren't on anymore for some reason :(

Per the owner's manual:

Maybe #1?

for Canada
The DRL will turn off when:
1. The light switch is in the headlamp
position, including the operation
that the headlamp is turned on
automatically in the AUTO light
position.
2. The parking brake is applied.
3. The engine is turned off.
4. The hazard warning flasher is on.
5. You turn the turn signal light on.
- If you turn on the turn signal
light, only the corresponding
daytime running lights will turn
off.
- If you turn on turn signal light
with the position light turned on,
the daytime running lights will
turn off but the position light
remains on.

Thanks again, Chris. I did see that as well, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be my case, as the headlights are not on. Literally not a single bulb is illuminated on the car right now. Usually the two small DRL bulbs on my 09 (no LED's on this car) are always running when the car is on in the daytime. It seems something might have been left disconnected when they serviced the car.

I wonder if there is a specific fuse that could cause this, or if there's even a certain cable/harness that would only activate the DRLs. The auto function of the lights still works, however. My headlights came on automatically this evening when it got dark enough.

Can anybody tell me what this is? I thought perhaps it was a box with spares... I feel like I may be dead wrong. I tried to disconnect it with the large latch but couldn't get it to come out. I'm thinking I should stop trying to fix my own problems lol.

Stock? Oh, you mean stalk, Soul. In the botany world it's called a peduncle. ;)

Can any Canadian Genesis Sedan owner chime in here? Is there a fuse for DRL that I'm just not seeing? I tried pulling and swapping the relay labeled "DRL" in the drivers side engine bay fuse box. It didn't make a difference. I'm wondering what else could be causing this. All bulbs work fine in low, high, and parking light mode, so they can't be burnt out.

Is it possible that the tech at Hyundai simply didn't reconnect something when they did the last service? Is there something that would cause only the DRL's to stop working?

For anyone who may read this: The dealership took a look at my car today, and settled on the DRL issue being caused by the "FAM unit".... They are quoting me $1100. I'm floored. Isn't there a specific DRL unit for this car? Wouldn't the "FAM" cause all kinds of other issues?

Hi, Thank you for the information Valo_Soul,
I was having the same problem. My DRL were not turning on. I have checked everything (fuses, relays and circuits) but not a clue! everything was looking good but my DRL was not working. I got the lead from your post. What I did to fix it was just removing the FAM unit and blow at it and put it back on. Boom! my DRL is fixed. I hope you did not payed $1100 to the dealer. You can find the part on eBay for about $60.
Thanks again,
