  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got this in mail today to fit an Auxiliary Carbon Canister @ NC.
Does anyone know if this is to address GDI build up ?
I have an appointment booked to have the work done July 7th.
I'll talk to the Dealer about it & report my findings then.

Doubt it. Carbon buildup is through the PCV valve. Solution is an inline oil catch can.

Be interested to see what it as about though.

Edit: There's another thread on it..... emission control upgrade.

I searched emission control upgrade but nothing came up

Carbon canisters are to capture vapours from the gas tank

Done in 2 hours.No issues.

Auxiliary Canister Kit recall....my appointment is end of month. As it was described by the service desk person they will be installing an additional fuel vapor canister in between the fuel tank and the main canister.

Got the same recall notice. It states its voluntary. Berfore I get this done my real question is whether it changes/impacts ANYTHING with the driving performance, or otherwise, should this be done. If anyone has insight into this would be much appreciated.

I see no reason not to do it.
If you don't do it, you are probably at an increased risk for the failure of the carbon canister in a few years. You could become one of those people that require ten or fifteen minutes to fill up, since you might have to trickle the fuel in.

Had this repair done on July 7; check engine light came on a week later. Took it back to dealer who did the work and am told i now need a NEW carbon canister (hairline cracks) and open/close valve (total about $600). I have made my case that these could have been damaged during the recall work to install auxillary carbon canister but nobody seems interested in hearing it. Has anyone else had this kind of failure?

I can understand how the canister might have cracked when they disconnected it using ordinary care (so really not the technician's fault), however if was working before they touched it and failed just after. I feel like even so, they are on the hook for repairing it. That said, I am no lawyer.

I did this repair and I have noticed hesitation while accelerating and erratic engine revs while stopped. The symptoms go away when the engine has warmed up. No check engine light though
