If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I envy your folks in the US. Up here in the great white north we pay more but getting less!
Vehicle warranty: US get 5 yr or 100,000 miles; Canada 5 yr or 62,000 miles.
XM radio: US get 1yr subscription; Canada 3 months.
HD radio: US, yes; Canada, No. This one doesn't really make sense. Most Canadians live near the US/Canada border and receive many us FM stations. Also, we travel to the US alot. Why disable this feature on Canadian cars. It doesn't cost Hyundai one cent more.
Pricing: Canadian pay about $8k more for the same car.

i am kinda suprised to hear all this. i just assumed the cars were essentially the same but with different manuals and compliance stickers on them.

that sucks...

living in maine, last year GM made a big stink about canadians coming across the border to shop in the US. it is crazy.

That's the difference between the basic Hyundai warranty in the states and the basic Hyundai warranty in Canada. It has nothing to do with the Genesis.

That's XM Canada's policy. we also can't get any Sirius programming on XM. Again, nothing to do with the Genesis.

The Genesis with tech package does have HD radio in Canada. Where is that coming from?

Pricing: Canadian pay about $8k more for the same car.

With the instability of both the Canadian dollar, American dollar and South Korean won it's not surprising to see some disrepancy in the MSRP. A fully loaded V8 w/tech in the states has an MSRP of $41,250USD while the same Canadian car has an MSRP of $48,995CDN which, at the current exchange rate (0.8374), is equivalent to $41,028USD so it's actually cheaper in Canada (by 0.5%, which is pretty darn close).

The one thing that we DO get short-changed on is that we cannot choose the exterior/interior colour combination we want in Canada. Each exterior colour only has one choice of interior that goes with it and THAT is stupid.

Yes I understand that is Hyundai's basic policy, however, if Hyundai want to inject confidence to luxury car buyers it should offer better warranty for the Genesis.

That's XM Canada's policy. we also can't get any Sirius programming on XM. Again, nothing to do with the Genesis.

It is a cost issue. Nothing to do with XM's policy. If Hyundai willing to "pay" XM certain amount of money XM can offer any length of "free" service.

HD radio is currently under review by the CRTC. Broadcasters are not allowed to use the HD technology until such time when CRTC give its stamp of approval. If you turn the radio to FM and click on Settings you won't see the "HD radio off" option.

Canadians pay $48,995 regradless of the exchange rate. The price was the same when the Canadian dollar was at par with the US dollar.

Also, we pay $1600.00 for freight and prep. In the US this is only about $700.00. Hyundai is not alone in this one. Lexus charge $1900.00 for frieght even though the RX350 is assembled in Ontario! In the US, the freight is only $750.00 for the RX350.

You mean like Lexus, BMW and Mercedes, who offer 4 years/80,000 km (1 year, 20,000 km less than Hyundai)?

Or like Infiniti, who offers 4 years/100,000 km (one year less than Hyundai)?

It is a cost issue. Nothing to do with XM's policy. If Hyundai willing to "pay" XM certain amount of money XM can offer any length of "free" service.

When all of the previously mentioned brands (except Lexus) offer 3 months free (Lexus only offers 6 months, nobody in Canada offers one year) I think it's more that just "a cheap manufacturer".

So now you're blaming Hyundai for the CRTC's delay in authorizing Canadian radio stations to broadcast in HD?

Canadians pay $48,995 regardless of the exchange rate. The price was the same when the Canadian dollar was at par with the US dollar.

Yeah, they also weren't selling the Genesis in Canada back then. The MSRP was the same when the dollar was at 60 cent US but it's just as irrelevant. They can't change the MSRP every day and it turns out the MSRP they've chosen is bang on with the exchange rate of when they actually released the car in Canada.

You're grasping at straws here. I don't know exactly how manufacturers figure out their freight/preparation charges but I do know all of them charge more in Canada than in the states. I don't know why but it's a fact, and it doesn't matter where the car is manufactured.

You're welcome to piss and moan all you want but I'm quite convinced that Hyundai has nothing to do with your unhappiness with the car. It's your crazy expectations that make you unhappy. Keep in mind that you're comparing with vehicles that cost tens of thousands of dollars more,

Gimli,
You took my comments about the Genesis all wrong. I merely stated Canadian owners don't get as much value as US owners. I love my Genesis. I traded down from Audi and Lexus for the Genesis.

Don't blame Hyundai for Canadians import tax policy..... If they had the same warranty, the price of the car would have been higher.

I agree. The Canadian import tax has a role in the extra cost on import cars in Canada. On the other hand it is really up to the car makers to decide their pricing and marketing policy. For example, Mitsubishi offer the same 10 years/100,000 miles warranty in US and Canada.
