  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Saw this and thought it might be of interest to the community. There is a pretty cool project on Kickstarter right now that allows you to intercept and tinker with CANBus signals. Here is the link to CANBus Triple.

Check out this sample hack on YouTube

Great find! I'm not sure I'd try it in the Genny, especially during warranty. But.... My motorcycle is CANBus and it is tempting....

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
it is an awesome find. I am not sure I would be able to design something to use it.

Looks cool; I didn't have much luck downloading the source code or API docs, but it's all being fleshed out I guess.

This is fantastic. I did some CANBus stuff with my last two cars. It was totally easy. There was a strong enthusiast community, and folks developed simple interfaces and some simple programs to access and manipulate their cars. It is highly unlikely that it would have any effect on warranty.

My highpoint was doing custom Bluetooth telephone module configuration over the CANBus on my dad's car to retrofit the Bluetooth module. I had a Skype going with a guy in the Netherlands who had some expertise with the Bluetooth module configuration who was decoding my module and telling me what to send on the bus to enable it. It freakin' worked, and it was awesome.

I would love to be able to do that. But, I know I would need an expert to get started. it would be a good solution for my sunshade upgrade.

already done with VAG vehicles as they all use some type of canbus..it was great was turning on the features that cars overseas had

Can you give an example of a feature you were just able to turn on that was already present?

I assume canbus can't access the launch counter on the launch-control-equipped vehicles?

This certainly would be a interesting project to work on, but keep in mind that you can literary brick bits of your car while mucking around with the CANBus, especially without having detailed documentation to every component on that Bus!

In addition, I would suspect HMA might not take kindly to our 'research' efforts as this is a very hot topic, that has been causing a bit of a stir in the auto industry already!

Suffice to say, it was very amusing how some auto manufacturers reacted () to the news reveled in the DEF CON last year ...

Here is some interesting articles related to the subject if anyone is interested:

And fresh of the press:

If there is sufficient interested people with the right background with lots of patience (this no simple API) and the willingness to take on some risks, I personally could be persuaded to put my name in the hat... :grouphug:

Otherwise, I propose that we better leave the topic in the hands of the engineers who designed our vehicles and hopefully let this thread die naturally ..

Just my two cents....

vw,audi's and other VAG vehicles can be altered with some software called vagcom..once i brought the cable needed to interface with the truck (2008 Vw Touareg) i was able to change the number of turn signal flashes, adjust the height on my air suspension, adjust transmission shift pattern to those used in europe, turn on being able to keep my fog lights on with high beams, disable seatbelt chime..

I was also able to view trouble codes

Bringing this one back from the dead, and for those interested there's also a (somewhat) unanswered thread here which asks about locations to tap into the bus. I've gotten really interested in this as of late...

I would like to edit the canbus to allow the fog light LEDs to be on with only the LEDS around the headlights and not have to have the headlights on for the fogs to be lit.
I think that would look sweet.

I just added a post with an example CAN bus interface. That will get the car's bus traffic visible to a PC.

Can the windows be programmed to open and close with the remote, like I did using the VAG-COM on my Audis?

hi
did anyone have luck playing with the CANBus?

and is it possible to start the car from can bus in the g80 models?

My DRL/front turn signal bulbs keep burning out. Looking to replace with LED hoping for longer life. Has anyone done this and can you tell me what you bought and where you bought them?

I'm posting this here because the LED shop I consulted said: Your vehicle may require an LED compatible Flasher or Load Resistor. LED brake/tail lamps will not flash with most stock flasher units due to their extremely low current draw.

So i'm not sure if i need a CANBus LED or not. Dealer won't help me. Maybe you can.
