  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is my first thread. I have been reading and reading this site as well as some others for some time. I have watched about every youtube review on these three cars I can find. I have driven the Genesis 2014 Tech and R-spec as well as the 2014 Equus. For comparisons, I also drove the Avalon, Cadenza, and Azera. I have owned an E500, A8, and S8 in the past and I don't think I want to go German again due to repair costs.

I am trying to decide between the following tough choices:
2013 R-spec
2014 R-spec
2015 AWD 3.8
2013 Equus

I can get all of those cars under $46K-ish which is about my limit on what I want to spend. The 2013 R-spec is attractive since they look like they can be had for $38K right now.

I guess the decision is, do you go with a 2013 and get a great value, 2014 that has been proven, wait on a 2015 shortly, or get a 2013 Equus or slightly used 2013 Equus for somewhere in the low $40s?

Can't make up my mind at all.

I can't help much on the specific choices you listed from above. However, the Equis might be my choice on the future shopping list. But I can say that I never considered a Hyundai before. I have had many vehicles and Hyundai wasn't ever on my list. Having this Genesis (2011 4.6 Tech) has sure changed my perspective and opened my eyes to this company. It really is a good product and value. I anticipate I will grow along with Hyundai as they grow their product offering over the coming years. Don't worry about buying a Hyundai. They really are very solid. A good product.

i wish i could of waited.... i would really love to see what the awd genny can do. you got a tough choice.

Wait 2 weeks and test drive the 2015 V6, then report back :D

First off, welcome to the forum. I would highly recommend holding off and test driving the new 2015 Genesis. From everything I have read and physically seen on that car, you won't be disappointed in waiting. Just my 2 cents...

If you live where there is a good bit of snow each year then AWD. Otherwise go with the lowest miles car with the options and performance you want. The Equus is a cruiser.

If you are not looking for outright speed and performance, go with the Equus hands down. I own Genny with 5.0 and love it. However the Equus is many steps above. Driven one for a time and still considering one for the biz.. What I drive was a 2014 Ultimate. Nothing like it.

I was in a similar position last week and Chose and Bought the 2014 R-Spec.

It came in a color that I liked (Parisian Gray) and the 1st Generation Genesis is a known Commodity, whereas the 2015 is a bit of a gamble (And a lot more money). And the Equus was just too Big a Car.

If you look around, you may be able to find a new '13. My dealer still has some, granted not a R Spec. But on either the '13 or '14 new, you should be able to get a gret deal as they need to blow them out so they can bring in the '15 and sell them at the asking price.

While the eqqus is nice, I'm not fond of the look. I've been looking at the '15's as they are sitting out here and I drive by them every day. Just waiting for them to show up at my dealer to go drive one, unless I get lucky and my buddy get's me in the lot to drive one early. :)

I got '13 R-spec with 4600 miles on the clock for 33k 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, just look around and you may get lucky.

I think I'd wait until you can drive a '15 and then compare to the 1G Genesis. I saw it at the ny auto show and it looks great and reviews posted on this forum have been very good. If it doesn't blow YOU away, it's not worth the premium you will pay over the deals available on 13's and '14's.

As for the Equus, the advantage is in the interior fit and finish and great suspension....tho I believe the the top of the line '15 Genesis has either the same or similar suspension. Also, the convenience of valet service. There are great deals available, too.

Just traded my '12 Equus for a '14 so I am obviously a happy owner Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. My plan has been to wait on the 15 and check it out and I am thinking the 13 and 14 deals will be even a little better. It is tough to decide though between the 4. My gut is saying go with an R-spec, either 13 or 14 and save some cash. But the Equus is sweet and the 15 looks awesome. I plan to buy the wife a loaded Santa Fe at the same time so I may opt to go R-spec and keep the total down.

That is exactly what I did! :D

Hello everyone. As of about three hours ago im the proud owner of a 2013 Genny Option 2 with 2700 miles that I snagged for $26956 OTD. I almost feel like I didn't get a great deal but I know or at least hope I did! Very excited to own the car either way. Oh I traded my 2010 Hyundai sonata Gls for this..and what an upgrade she is!

By option 2, do you mean premium or tech?

Man, I so wish I could have done that, too. We were in the market for an SUV for my wife and we loved the Sante Fe Limited 7 passenger. The ONLY problem was she couldn't get comfortably safe in the car. She is 5'0", and with the seat in up and in, her knees were jammed into the under dash area. Apparently wasn't designed for someone of her stature. Ended up getting her another RX (had an '01, now a '13).

Well, made it to the local dealer today and drove 4 vehicles, Santa Fe Sport 2.0T, Santa Fe, 14 base Genesis, and the 15 3.8 AWD with Tech Pkg.

I may be more confused now than ever. I thought I was pretty sure I was going to buy a 14 RSpec or Tech, but after seeing the 15 and kicking around some numbers compared to what I feel like I really want and will use from a tech stand point, I am really conflicted.

First for the Santa Fe, I liked the ride and feel of the larger 7 passenger but the third row seats are basically useless for me as my kids are 16 and 13 and couldn't be comfortable back there for much of a trip, and the space for luggage is pretty small when the third row is used. So the Santa Fe Sport may be more suitable for the wife. I am going to check out the Caddy SRX and the Buick Enclave with the Buick having an edge by the looks on paper.

For the Genesis, I drove the 14 base model first and was really impressed. It is just a solid car. I owned a 2005 E500 a few years ago and the Genesis is almost on par with it from a ride stand point. The seat is actually better. I was impressed again with the ride, engine, and transmission.

Next up was the 15 3.8 AWD Tech Pkg. I was shocked at how much better the new model looks in person vs the pictures on the net. I really liked the looks much better than I expected. Basically, every aspect of the new car was just a touch better, from the seat, interior, ride, handling, and road noise. It is all just a bit better. Not a lot, but it is better in every category I thought. Obviously the technology was quite different and I am trying to figure out if I want a Tech Pkg, or just the Signature. Then there is the older model, do I want the Tech or the R spec?

I am going to have to drive them again and re-evaluate. They are both great cars, I have to decide which is a better value for me. I think I can get a 14 with what I need for $10k less or more than the 15. Tough choice.

If you are planning on buying soon, you will probably have to pay MSRP for a 2015 Genesis. A 2014 Genesis is going for $8-10K off MSRP, so the price difference between 2014 and 2015 for equivalent features is $15K-$20K.
