  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car bra for sedan?

The clear bra requires a skilled installer. I have had mine installed on my G35 in 2003 and again in 2007 and have seen various clear bra installs. Not all are done correctly. The kit is not inexpensive and making mistakes can be costly. The installer I used was very good in 2003 and became exceptional in 2007. It requires many many applications to get it right. For me it is worth every penny to get a quality installation.
Well said - my point exactly. My installation - full front wrap, from bumper to front doors - took two full days and a lot of film. The cost was $1200 with lifetime guarantee. It was done right, and I'm very pleased with the result. It's already saved my paint twice - a parking lot scrape and a valet parking scrape. Without the film I would have needed body work; with the film it wiped right off with Plexus.:)

I brought my wife's Nissan Cube into our local installer today who does killer work. He was doing a Vette to the tune of $1200 when I walked in. I asked if he was interested and how much he would charge to install the kit I had from eBay on the cube. $250 was the answer +$200 which I paid for the kit, so basically $450 for the entire job. He said it would have cost me $700 if he did the install and included the film. Pretty good savings if you ask me. Takes 4 hours to do the work so basically I am paying him $62.50 an hour cash. Still expensive but I know it will be a perfect install when done. Not too many people make that kind of money tax free.

I agree. The skill set is definitely above your typical window film installer, but on the videos doesn't look like it should take more than a couple hours for an expert to install. I'd be willing to pay typical expert mechanic rates, $80-$100 per hour, which should make the total cost $400 or so. $1000 and up is ridiculous.

I would disagree with you about the skill level being above a window film installer. When an installer installs film on the back window of a car, the film has to been "shrunk" to the rear window do to the compound curves of the window. This can be difficult and time consuming especially when using a metallic or ceramic film which adds to the difficulty level.

I'm not saying paint protection application is easy, but I don't believe it takes more skill vs. applying window film.

Has anyone found a front end bra (not clear bra) for the 4 door sedan Genesis
yet ? (one road trip and I have a chip)

I have found front end bra. My friend has a Genesis. And he installed its bra. I think I can refer him to you. :D

I am thinking about getting a clear bra for my new Genny 4.6 (Black). Comments by anyone who has had it on their car for a length of time care to comment? any ideas on one brand vs another?

I have done two cars with a clear bra. My last was my 2009 black Genesis. It was a difficult job. The installer had to do it over. I was very disappointed in the install as the "kit" did not cover the grill, which I had painted black to color match. The color-matched grill was the most vulnerable part.

On my 2011 Genesis (Cimmaron), I elected to go with a Colgan Bra. It is a tight fit, but very well made. I made a mistake in not tightening with pliers the clips that fit around the fender openings. This caused the bra to flap a bit, which in turn cause paint to wear away in a small spot. I am running braless right now. I do long trips and have a transcon trip planned for July, when I probably will reinstall the Colgan, this time correctly.

I installed the 3m clear and my only regret is not wrapping the entire hood!

I agree, Matt - I don't like the look of a piece of film that stops 1/3 of the way up the hood. It's especially visible on a dark car - mine is black and the film (full wrap) is completely invisible, unless you know what you're looking for.
