If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm curious to hear from those who have recently purchased a Genesis...did you have a positive experience?

I've tried to buy a GV70 from 2 separate dealers, both have been a total waste of my time. And both consumed an exorbitant amount of my time, only to end in disappointment. I have a hefty down payment, excellent credit, and I am trying my hardest to buy this vehicle. Do they want to sell these cars?! It doesn't seem like it. I really want a GV70, but I don't know how much more time I can invest only to be disappointed by the sheer incompetence and dishonesty from the dealerships. Here's my latest experience to provide some context.....

I had an appointment to pick up a GV70 today at 5pm. We agreed on a price on Friday at 2pm, they marked the car as sold, and told me it couldn't go through the detailing process until Monday due to a shortage of service workers, which is why we were scheduled to pick up the car today at 5pm. My husband and I rearranged our day, since we have to drive an hour to the dealership each way and we both run our own businesses. The sales rep assured me everything was ready to go and that the paperwork would be a streamlined and quick process. I secured a new insurance policy for the vehicle, had a cashier's check in hand, and when I arrived today, nothing was ready: the paperwork wasn't started, the car hadn't been detailed.

I was told the paperwork would take about 40 minutes to complete, since there were two other people ahead of me to secure finance (which we had already worked through on Friday). I was confused to hear this, I explained that I had an appointment and all these details were worked out already. I wanted to understand the problem and I was told "the more questions you ask, the longer it will take." That is a direct quote. I called the sales rep I had been dealing with (since she wasn't around for this conversation), and she starts talking about the issues with the car. Apparently they didn't take off the outer plastic and it had melted to the trim of the car when it was siting in the sun, so they had to manually remove tiny pieces of shredded plastic from along the trim, instead of it coming off in one continuous piece. She said it would probably take a few hours until the car could be ready. I never received a call that things were delayed, and when I expressed my surprise that nothing was in fact as they assured me it would be and that this was an utter waste of my time, I was met with condescension, disrespect, and malice. The absurdity of the experience continues, but I think you get the gest.

I have never been repeatedly treated so disrespectfully. There was another horrible experience with a different dealership, and I'll spare you the details, however, this has me wondering -- is this a systemic problem? Why is it so difficult to find a salesperson who will respect my time and sell me a car?

I canceled my new insurance policy, and tomorrow I'll deposit my cashier's check back into my account. All the joy and excitement I was feeling to make my first new car purchase is gone, and I am devastated.

I feel your pain. I've tried a few times to have everything lined up in advance of going into a dealership when buying/picking up a new car (my wife hates with a passion going into them). The last two times I did this it was pretty much like you mentioned. No surprise, but the customers time just isn't important at all to a lot of dealerships. Recently I've bought cars where things went better (they both were BMW stores but there are others out there too.).

Ugggggg! How frustrating. It seems like you still don't have a Genesis yet, are you still trying?

Not yet. With the market the way it is I've decided to wait. Both of our current cars are low mileage so no big rush.

I went to 4 dealers and could not even find a G70 to test drive. Not one. The one dealer that had exactly what I wanted coming in if a month, wanted a non refundable deposit. I did not want to take the risk of not liking the car and being stuck with it or loosing the deposit. So I went to the 4th dealer that said they had one for me to test drive. I got there and they just sold it so I could not test drive it. I ended up buying a 2021 GV80 that the 4th dealer ship just released to sell that had 280 miles on it. They wanted sticker price for it but as I was leaving they came out and took 3 grand off the price and offered me 3 grand more for my trade in. I am glad I got the bigger car as I like the extra space. I came from a Q5 which is the same size as the GV70 and the cargo room, the elbow room and the back seat comfort are great.

Congratulations on getting a GV80! I feel your pain in having to hunt for the vehicle you want. Hopefully your good luck will run off on me. 😉

I’m happy you can take your time — hopefully you will stumble upon a good deal one of these days.

I’m currently driving a 1999 Lexus, which worked great prepandemic when I was living in a city and using my bike as a primary mode of transportation. I’m loooooong overdue for an upgrade and looking forward to having a car from this century. Especially since I’ll need to drive for client meetings this next year. I want to ride in style!

Update….I got a beautiful silver GV70 with Havana Brown interior. I’m stoked! Major upgrade from my 99 Lexus, which I’m keeping as part of my “classic” car collection now 😉

Congratulations! Enjoy...

Yeah, I had a lot of bad experiences with dealers in the Chicagoland area...won't go into the details, but a lot of wasted time and effort that could have been avoided had the dealers been upfront and honest with me.

Congrats! Curious, did one of the dealers you've been talking to call you back, or did you find this from another dealer? Also curious how this buying experience went.

The one positive experience I had with my G70 was the purchase and delivery. MSRP, average DOC fee, no other hidden add on’s.
We agreed on a specified time and car was ready. Probably the quickest I ever made it thru a dealership. Trade in value was previously agreed on after I emailed photos and no attempts were made to lowball me.
Dealer was Genesis of Huntsville Alabama.

That is fantastic to hear that some dealerships are trying to pull the add on's trick. Certainily was not my purchase experience based on using Genesis Conceirge and Sarasota Genesis dealership.

Why is it fantastic?
Sorry I missed including the very important 3 letter word NOT. 'That is fantastic to hear that some dealerships are NOT trying to pull the add on's trick.'

I am not sure where in Illinois you are but we had a not so nice experience with one local dealer here in the Chicago area. I then reached out to Boucher Genesis of Janesville. Long story short, they had an Advanced level GV70 coming in that met our requirements. They had their market adjustment posted clearly on their website, which was quite a bit less than the Chicago area dealers had hidden. We pick up our car on Saturday.

When I decided I wanted a GV80, I called the Genesis Concierge, which was a joke. They put in me in touch with the nearest Genesis dealer, 250 miles from me. I called them and they would not sell me a Genesis, since I lived out of state and demand was so high.

I called Concierge again, who told me there was nothing they could do about that and I should contact a different dealer. Called a second dealer a little further away (255 miles), and set up an appointment to test drive one. The sales person said they would contact me the morning of the appointment to make sure they still had the vehicle, since I was driving 3.5 hours. That morning, there was no contact from the sales person, so I called the dealership. The sales person was busy but the sales manager told me they had a GV80 on the lot I could drive.

I drove the 3.5 hours to the dealership and when I arrived, the sales person told me they had sold the GV80 the day before so they had nothing I could drive. I asked to speak to the sales manager, who claimed he didn't know the vehicle was sold and tried to sell me a GV70 that was "just off the truck." He then offered the rigamarole about putting down a nonrefundable $500 deposit to reserve one so I could test drive it. Wouldn't commit to selling at MSRP. Dealer garbage add-on package was mandatory ($499 for fabric protectant in a vehicle with leather seats? Really?) Financing through the dealership was required. No thanks.

There's a lot of demand right now but when we hit the next recession, customers need to remember the dealers who pulled these shenanigans and let them quietly go out of business.

I live in the Chicago area, SW suburbs. The nearest Genesis dealer is Genesis of Orland Park (actually in Tinley Park). It's a large dealership in a busy area, but they still don't have a Genesis sign anywhere on their building which I've always thought was odd. There are others not too far away but I haven't visited them.

Sounds to me that they were trying to wear you down for so extra dealer add-on's or extend warranty options.

So you drive 7 hours at $4 a gallon for nothing? I'd be pissed off.
