  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Before I ask: YES I read every post on this subject but none helped.

What do those who've had experience with a valuable car and Northeast weather think of car covers for those of us who must leave our Best Beloved parked outside in all weathers?

Are they good to protect from scratches when removing snow?

Do they HELP in the removal of snow?

What if you're not the most able (and, almost literally, a dwarf) and inclined to leave the snow on the car (and cover if there) for a few days before removing. Can the snow and its weight or any melt, freeze the cover TO the car?

With our ability to remote start/heat the car, is it BAD to remote start and turn on the heat IF THERE'S A COVER ON THE CAR?

And PRETTY PLEASE don't just say [lecture] " Well, better to shovel early or multiple times or whatev" ... if that were viable I'd do it. It ain't.

And any help on thickness or type or brand of covers particularly helpful/ protective FOR SNOW?

This is current one under consideration:

As usual: :grouphug: and :thanks:

My only firsthand experience with a cover was my dad's '60 t-bird that lived under a cover for a couple years and the white paint became covered in a green mold from moisture (it was also parked on dirt).

I doubt that would be a problem if removed regularly, but i would have some concern about introducing scratches when putting on and taking off the cover. That seems like an equally difficult task to snow removal. They have snow removal brushes with extendable handles designed for minivan/full sized SUV roofs, but it may work well on a sedan for the vertically challenged:)

If you are starting the car covered in snow or with the cover still on, take care there is proper ventilation for the exhaust.

No cover I know of is meant for snow, more for rain/dust in general. The covers will cover the tail pipes so that would be a bad to start it up with the cover on. Could even melt the cover where it contacts the pipes! They all have elastics to hold them into place around the bottom edge which would prove difficult in 20 below weather. Maybe someone does make something specifically for winter but not that I have heard of. Around my neck of the woods many use those temporary garage shelters for convenience and I would really suggest one for you also. In fact some are cheaper than a car cover. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-outdoor-tool...15/1031116850?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

That link is AWESOME ... but I'm pretty sure my Condo Association ain't gonna think it's all that! :D And your point about using start/heater remote and the cover melting is an excellent one, thank you!

BUT honestly has NO ONE actually USED a car cover in a snow state? Really? No one with actual experience pretty pretty please?!?!

I parked my bimmer outside for 12 years, never garaged and after all those years the paint looked as good as new. Why would I need a cover?
I think the cover will actually cause more damage to the roof.
