  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, guys, I need some help pretty quickly. Yesterday afternoon management sent out e-mail that they'd be power-washing/sealing/spray-painting one of the buildings at our very small facility and recommended staying away from the work area. The less-than-helpful suggestion was that the 50 of us who usually park in the back lot should move to the front lot, which is already filled by another 25 of us.

So I'm looking for a car cover that will offer good-to-very good protection against weather and paint overspray, with a decent fit for my 4.8L, and not break the bank. Oh yes, and quick shipping.

Any suggestions for vendor or product?
Thanks, Wendy

Unless you want OEM, these guys might work. I have used them in the past, but it has been a while. I have not purchased a cover for my Genesis. Fortunately it spends the bulk of the time in the garage.

They carry a wide variety of products at various price points:

A quick search on eBay turned up a couple of hits. There is a place in Richmond, VA that has a OEM Hyundai cover listed. Pricey, but may facilitate the quick turnaround you desire.

Yeah, i've been looking into covers a little too. I want the OEM cover specifically for the Genesis, but am not willing to pay the premium for it. More than likely I will order one the is universal. My car will be covered while be stored each winter.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Thanks, Moose, I appreciate the legwork! I just ordered the OEM cover from those folks up the road in Richmond. Their price was significantly better than most of the other parts houses. Funny thing--the manufacturers of custom, semi-custom and universal fit covers give you all kinds of information and details about their products, but I can't find any real descriptions of the OEM product except that it's breathable and lockable. Hope this cover protects as well as the brand-name ones.

Scott, you're right, it is a little pricey. But my Gennie is my daily driver and sits out in the hot sun/cold rain all year (we've got a 3-bay garage with only enough room for my husband's sports car and woodworking equipment--go figure)

What price did you pay?? Is it the Hyundai Dealership??

Hi, Scott, $232.50 for the cover, about $11 for UPS shipping (will vary depending on distance) and 5% Virginia sales tax which won't apply to you. Other stores were asking for $270 (SALE!) to $300, but some offered free shipping and I wouldn't have had to pay sales tax. Probably not the least expensive thing I could do, but it'll be quick.

Couldn't tell if this was a dealership or an independent retailer. I phoned their customer service number, talked to a real nice guy, he says he'll have the cover in a couple of days and ship it out as soon as it arrives.

If you just want to keep the dust off while your car's in storage, I would think a universal cover would do the job for less money. But maybe the Hyundai custom will be a little more stylish.

I'll post again when the cover comes in.

Please do, as I am interested in a quality cover especially a cover that is made for the Genesis. I know my dealer has them, but I'm sure they are over $300.

You guys may like those high priced covers, but just to cover your car while they are fixing the roof, I would do what I already do. Just go to Pep-Boys, or any other chain auto parts stores, and get a cover for $29.95 (or $39.95). Works great for those temporary times I have to cover the car. For the times I've owned three cars, (two car garage), I just cover my oldest car outside.

Seems a shame to pay a lot for a cover that may well get covered in dirt, water, sealer and paint. A cheap cover can get dirty just as easy as an expensive cover.

Bob, you always have a level head about these things, and thanks for your response. If I thought there would ever be room in the garage for the Gennie, I'd do as you suggest. But I'm thinking I need something for the long haul, and I don't much care if it gets painted a little.

keep in mind a cheap cover isn't as resistance against moisture, dirt and will not be as breathable as a higher quality one. I'd go talk to the local paint shop. They would kill you if you told them you bought a cheap cover. They know why. Longer term storage (seasonal or longer) I'm going with a quality car cover. Doesn't mean I'll spend $200+ either. Just my $.02

EDIT: Also, I've had a car cover before ($40) and it was not as high quality material as a higher priced one.

i will just park at the front lot and stay away from the back until it is done and pocket the savings. Car cover often do more harm than good like if you don't wash your car often, when putting the cover on, the dirt mixed with sand particle will scratch your fine paint. ;-)

I and several other collectors I know use Cover Craft covers. They're a bit pricier, but they use much better materials than what you'll find with a Wal-Mart cover, which will, with repeated use, almost certainly scratch or mar the finish at some point.

Simple solution for me, I'll wash my car (as planned) before storing it for the winter.:D Which is a no brainer, right?? Keep in mind my cover will only be used once a year for long term before the car is uncovered.
