  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

'13 r-spec....Unlocked the car with the remote, remote back in pocket, sat in the driver seat and heard the initial ding ding chime from the dash and pushed the start button. Didnt even turn over, no noise, dash went dead, lights went dead....no power period. shut the door and remote didnt work either.

checked fuses on driver side dash panel quickly (looked fine). checked all the connections to the battery and everything was fine.

girlfriend goes in driver seat maybe 5 minutes later while im checking things and presses the start button. dash lights up, little key on the dash is blinking and the info screen says to touch the remote to the start button and push the button with the remote.....car starts

trip computer, mpg screen, clock all reset themselves. car is fine now but wtf happened? Ive never seen the screen tell me to touch the remote to the start button in order to start the car.

Sounds like you need to change your key fob battery.

I wonder if "remote in back pocket" affected the fob's operation. How's the integrity of the fob? Could it be cracked and flexing being in your rear pocket, causing the battery to disconnect or the circuit board to flex and temporarily become inoperative?

possibly, didnt think of that. battery is 13 months old...enough time to kill the battery? maybe...allow i use the door handle button to unlock and lock the almost all the time

remote is always in front jacket pocket. never my rear pants pocket. fob is in perfect condition

Remote batteries last only a year max for me

I have Two Fobs over 4 years old still working fine using original batteries.

A cell phone next to or in close relationship to the key fob can cause interference that may affect the remote key fob from working properly.

usually I have to replace my fob batteries every year and a half or so. Sometimes once a year. and my fobs do not get used from December through March.

The symptoms that the OP describe are of a battery issue IMO. Everything operates fine when the fob is held next to the start button or inserted in the key fob slot for the OP, so it's not a loose yellow master fuse etc. Heck, I couldn't figure out why one of my key fobs didn't work anymore and it turns out the dealer installed a new battery for me for free last year, but put the battery upside-down:confused:

Did he put it in upside down by accident or intentionally to get you back in the shop again :)
