  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Reading the threads on this forum, Genesis generally, not only G70 and for some reason was only now struck by how forums have changed over my time. I have a 99 Miata NB and that car is and has been a nearly exclusively mechanical issues forum, along with tires, fuel and whatnot. Later a 2012 Volvo C70 hardtop convertible. Still mostly mechanical with some infotainment, auto-locking and a few other issues addressed. Now with the 2019+ Genesis vehicles I am enjoying/fearing the threads about all the electronics. A seriously different owner experience is what i am saying. Congratulations to everyone navigating the new world of autodata and interfaces.

Forums topic changes with the times and current problems/concerns evolve as newer cars become more tech focused.

As I have learned on my job; the equipment with more tech is the most troublesome to keep running compared to the older more analog machines of yesterday.

It's the same with motorcycles. We have just as many "hey, what's this noise" as "how do I pair my Bluetooth" threads.

The biggest thing owners complain about, according to JDPower, is infotainment.

bah, humbug.... where is the thread telling me whether the crank start goes clockwise or counterclockwise?
Clockwise and don't grip it tightly. Fole in your fingers and push down so it breaks loos if it backfire.

What is the best way to set the points? Always had a hard time with that.

The automobile manufacturers have made astonishing advances in technology but have failed miserably in advancing the capabilities of their servicing network. The maintenance facilities are still filled with only Snap-On Toolboxes and Impact Guns.

Fortunately I've not had personal experience (yet) but judging from what I read here, most are inadequate when it comes to technology. Pulling the intake manifold is much different than troubleshooting an ECU and relays it controls. I'm sure the smart dealers are working to get better trained people but cars are moving fast to technology and more complex infotainment equipment.

I think that the problem is that you just about have to be an engineer to correctly diagnose a lot of car problems now. If you have that skill level, you can make more money doing easier work than being a dealership mechanic.
