  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

My car got keyed today. No idea why it happened (I'm a pretty nice guy, right?) but I am furious and obviously want to repair it.

I know there are a lot of products out there that promise to remove scratches and make them invisible. Has anyone had any success with any of these on key scratches?

I have 3 scratches on the rear passenger quarter panel. One is about 6 inches and the others are less than an inch combined.

Your advice matters! Thanks!

Ouch, sorry to hear that bro! I don't have an answer for you, unfortunately. I have never been keyed, but I did notice a relatively recent 1 inch scratch on the front quarter panel near my headlight (probably due to a stone), so I feel your pain, but obviously not to the same degree.

I've tried a couple of these products, like the Simoniz and another whose name I don't recall - they didn't work at all, not even a little bit. I have also tried swirl removers from Meguiars and Turtlse wax and they don't work either. You'll probably have to get the pane repainted if you want a decent job.

Unfortunately, if the scratch is deep, like down to the metal, that's an insurance-paid-for paint job on the panel.

After the tears- body shop estimate- $500+, then more tears.

Thanks guys. I had some Migiuers ScatchX and that stuff is pure snake oil.

Turns out my door ding protection program is going to cover it.

The world is full of douchebags and sociopaths. Warn your friends.
