  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There was an article about car jacking on the news tonight and it made me wonder: what happens when you get out of the car with the fob in your pocket and someone without it drives off? I know it squeals if I get out to get the mail when the car is running and shows a message saying the fob isn't in the car, but I'm only a couple of feet away. But if the car is driven away without the fob, what happens?

Good question, but it should be pretty easy to test.

Let us know how that works out! 😆

Nothing happens other than the beeping stops - that is until the car is shut off. Once shut off, it won't be able to be re-started without the key.

I know if you get the remote service package, you should be able to call Hyundai and they could follow your car to where ever it goes and maybe disable it. I don't subscribe to it right now but I thought I might next time I go on a road trip. In my home town, very unlikely the car would be stolen or carjacked. The important thing would be to keep your phone in your pocket. If you have a gun in your face, you may forget to grab it!

Definitely just call Genesis, report it stolen, and let them remotely shut the vehicle down and lock the doors.

Wow, I didn't know! That knife car jacking is where I go to the hardware store. I have insurance that allows for a year newer car if totaled. I wonder if they'd do the same if it's stolen?

From the story "Officers were able to locate the vehicle and followed it near the intersection of Gerald Avenue and South Sixth Street East, where they performed a high-risk stop and apprehended the suspect"

The high risk stop could be the pit maneuver, which could ruin the rear fender and sensors, which I read could cost near $30,000 to properly replace. If true, that would total my car, which Edmonds says is worth $16-$21K.

The thing I would have to do is fight the urge to resist the criminal and just let them take the car and remember I have insurance.
