  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
Hello everyone!

I am in the market for a vehicle soon and want something rather enjoyable but reliable. My last vehicle was a '15 sonata and my current is a Tiburon so naturally I looked to hyundai first and the '15 genesis 5.0 really has my attention! However I am also considering the Lexus IS F (although it would be a bit older, around 2008-2010). I've done some research on both and they both seem relatively reliable. I signed up for this forum to find some more information and get some opinions on these 2 options!

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 is a terrific vehicle. Plenty of V8 power, comfortable ride, decent handling and plenty of features to pamper you. As with any new model, however, you’ll find a list of ‘issues’ that can crop up. A quick search through the Sedan section will highlight these faults. I’ve owned mine for nearly two years and have had a few repairs done that were covered under warranty (new head unit, for example).

Thank you for this, I will search through for any potential faults to look out for!

Those are pretty dissimilar cars, in my opinion. The ISF is a true sports sedan (and fast). The Genesis is a straight line comfort cruiser (and certainly not slow). It really depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle and which one of these two suits your driving style better.

Quality-wise, I'd say it's close enough to not be a huge concern. Lexus is not without their share of issues, and the Genesis can certainly have it's own quirks to deal with. Power train seems strong on both, though. If your major concern is longevity, I'd go with the newer of the two choices and try to find a CPO Genesis and get an extended warranty. At the years you're looking at for the Lexus that won't be an option.

I agree. You are comparing a 2015 with one 5 to 7 years older. Reliability has to be an issue for the older Lexus.
