  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have encountered start issues intermittently. The car doesnt recognize key fob. (Even though new battaries) car will not turn over at all. Towed to dealer. car went out of warranty 2 weeks ago and now HYUNDAI says I need a new starter at the tune of $2 K

Does the ignition turn on or is the car completely dead?

Does it click like it’s trying to start? What’s the behavior, exactly?

2K? For a starter?! :woot:

What are they smoking? The whole starter (for a V8) is only $318 from Hyundiapartsdeal.com

Prob find a new Bosch or similar for half of that....

Just had my starter replaced last week by dealer here in Maryland. $1,006 after 15% discount. I thought this price was about $400 high, but then again I did take it to a dealership. Car wouldn’t start at all one day and had to have it towed. No warning or symptoms.

Same situation here, one morning it just wouldn't turn over, no warning whatsoever. The previous night it fired right up. All other electronics worked as you'd expect. Got quoted $1060 for a new starter at my local dealership. 51k miles

Had a similar situation with my '18 G80 exactly a year ago. No turnover. Tried to charge the battery over night and still wouldn't start. Called for a flatbed to take it to my dealer, but before the tow guy put the car on his bed, he pulled out a battery cord that was hooked to 2 batteries in series on his truck. Clip the end to my battery and told me to try to start. Pushed the start button and the starter spun up like a turbine, firing immediately. I then drove to the dealer where he kept it for about 3 or 4 days without finding anything wrong. Been running fine ever since.
