  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Welcome. Moving your topic to the first generation Genesis forum.

Is it going into accessory mode or run mode when you press the start button?

Accessory mode: the radio and a few other things work.
Accessory mode, you have to press the start button two more times for stuff to shut down.
Run mode: the radio works, the AC blower runs (if on), the windows work, and just about everything else.
Run mode, press the start button once more, and stuff shuts down.

A lot of things can go bad on a 13 year old car.

3.8? 4.6? Does it crank or not? If not, does the starter click? Anti-theft light on? Any mods or aftermarket parts on the car? Recent work done or trouble? Other symptoms or odd behavior? CEL or other dash lights previously on?

If all answers are "no", then start checking the fuses and relays marked START, ECU, IGN, BATT in the areas shown in the website below as well as on top of the battery. Battery fuse blocks are known to go bad as well (fatigue cracks in the bus bars).

Welcome to the world of this car has a mind of its own and does what it wants. Mine does the same thing and mechanics can’t figure it out. Changed the battery didn’t work. New battery in the fob didn’t work. No check engine lights or any codes just straight silence and all accessories come on as if I’m not on the brake. I’ve had my foot off the brake not touching the button and 5 sec later the car fires up. So far it hasn’t left me stranded for more than 10 minutes so I’m just riding the wave!

It's still an electric current issue between your battery terminals, starter, generator(aka alternator),fuse boxes and front area module(FAM) it could be one of those or a combination If it was me I would start with the battery terminals They get rusted sometimes and need lubrication I had a similar problem 2 weeks ago but your problem could be different

I had another Genesis owner in our group chat having this issue and he changed out his starter.

Whenever my R-Spec Sedan did this it really acted like it had a mind of it's own It would start Whenever it choose to start So my first thought was the starter as the culprit because everything else lite up good fortunately at that time I didn't feel like jacking up the vehicle on jack stands, laying under the vehicle to check the starter out. So after multiple attempts to get a boost from different neighbors failed in vain I just took my battery out scotch brited the battery posts and terminals then sprayed corrosion X on them Tightened back up to original torque specs and I left the vehicle sitting for two days Whenever I came back restarted the vehicle I never had that issue again It started right away It's been 3 months now

My car always starts up everyday. Its when I’m doing errands and driving around that after one place it won’t start. Wait a few mins and then it starts. My terminals are clean plus I have this in my trunk

It’s 2 10” diamond audio subs molded in a fiberglass enclosure with 2 diamond audio amps. It has good bass but I need to upgrade my interior speakers to make it all come together
