  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a new 2016 Genesis sedan with the Ultimate Package. I have put about 1,500 miles on the car to date. Twice recently it would not start - once in the morning and once after work. I get in the car and depress the brake pedal and hit the start button and absolutely nothing happens, no sounds, no clicks, just a black dash and black screen. Like all power to the car has been cut.

When I try to start it again I notice that I cannot depress the brake pedal at all. I try numerous times and it finally starts up normally except I notice that the analog clock quickly rotates to 12 and then about 30 seconds later rotates to the correct time. Also for some odd reason some of my customized settings on my HUD revert back to defaults.

Any of you experience this? Just asking before I go in for service.

Thank you!

Check your battery connectors, according to what you said they seem to be loose.

Thanks I will check that out this evening. Sure hope that is it. Otherwise its one of those issues that can be a nightmare to fix.

It could also be a faulty battery. Others have had this issue. I recommend videoing it so when you go to your dealer you can show them in case they cannot replicate the issue.

Good idea! And thanks for the feedback on the battery too.

Your :welcome: and :welcome: to the forum and congrats on the new ride.

Thanks! This is the first car that did not give me buyer's remorse after trading in an Acura. I will get this fixed and move on. It really is a great car plus people always ask what kind of car it is. Had a Tesla owner ask the other day...

You will get a lot of that. Too numerous time to count for me.

Okay I checked my battery last night as suggested and there is one odd thing - there is a box covering one of the battery connections that basically is just sitting there. I can easily lift it off. I suppose that is not normal???

One other possibility: if the car sits for a while or there is a leak in the power brakes, the brake pedal could be hard to push down. In that case, if you don't press the brake hard enough the car will go into accessory mode instead of starting (same as if you push the button without stepping on the brakes).

mine did that too straight from the dealership (posted here too about it), i took it to the dealer and had them look at the entire wiring and connections, they unhooked and rehooked everything they could and i havent had issues since

Well after tightening the battery connections I thought my problem was fixed, however the car still randomly won't start. Its really odd - for a brief second the car acts like its starting up then everything goes dark. Nothing will work. However I did notice that if I rock the car a bit it seems to start up normally. Its like something is loose somewhere other than the connections to the battery.

Well its a total electrical issue. When it happens my clock resets and I lose my customized settings, etc. Its like the battery has been removed from the car.

possibly faulty fuel pump?

That wouldn't result in a blanked display panel or clock and HUD reset. He has an electrical issue - most likely a connection somewhere or a bad battery

Check both the battery connections but also the + feed going to the main fusebox under the hood on the passenger side and the ground connection. Remove the lid and I think they are something like 10-12mm nuts that hold the cables. Do not touch your tools to any metal when dealing with the positive cables. It's pretty clear you have a bad connection someplace.

If the simple stuff doesn't work just take it in to Hyundai.

Wow my car this morning and all day today did this exact same thing....seems like if I slam my hood everything goes back to normal.

Sounds like a faulty battery.

Has anyone with this problem had a dealer determine what was wrong. I have multiple times when it would not start. Tonight it would not start at all. AAA was able to start. They first did a reset on the battery by disconnecting neg terminal. That did not work. Then he put in drive and held down the brake and starter button and shifted to park and it started. I left car in driveway after he left and turned off. I tried starting a minute later and it would not start. I am going to have it towed to the dealer tomorrow if I can't start. This is my second time. Florida gives dealer 3 attempts to fix. I am an attorney and I will inform the dealer that if this is not fixed then I will ultimately pursue requesting a return of the car and refund or a replacement car from Hyundai.

Had this problem once, the day after buying it,no problem since, thought maybe my wife had not depressed the brake pedal hard enough before pushing the start button!
