  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car won't start

I have had this happen to me several times over the last year. There are two connectors that connect to the positive fuse box on the battery. I disconnect the big slide connector (pinch and pull out a little) and then push back in till clicks and all my power comes back on every time. I do not understand why it is happening as the big connector is always connected when it occurs. Ironically, this power failure issue is intermittent. I can go a couple weeks and it doesn't happen. Then...it happens a couple times a week. ODD! Also, I replaced my battery during winter as I thought it was the battery as well. NO, it is something to do with the connector (s) on the positive fuse box.

Hi there, 2015 Genesis with 22k miles. The last few posts about the starting and connection issues are what I think is happening to me as well. I had the battery tested and it passed no problem. My car will randomly not start like others have said, like only if maybe I'm in a hurry or not, taking corners a bit faster or what not. When that happens the brake stiffens and there is no power at all or running lights, nothing works. I have to then manually open the trunk with the key to get to the battery and every single time right when I move the battery like a centimeter the trunk lights come back on and everything is back to normal and the car will start.

I just cant tell what it is because everything is tight and so clean it all looks brand new. I will check into the fuse box more but most likely will need to take this into the dealership to have the wires re done or the fuse box swapped. I also need to have an extra fuse for a recall installed so hopefully they take care of both. Please respond with any other suggestions and I will follow up as soon as I get my car in and find a resolution to this terribly annoying issue...

That sounds like it may be a loose or weak positive terminal connector which apparently has a design flaw based on some related posts in this forum. Everything "looks" fine and tight but isn't sufficient when a big power draw occurs (such as the electric steering column).

The BOX at the battery is the culprit on the No Start issues - well a lot of them if the battery checks good and has proper voltage. My sons silver and his white 3.8 sedan have both done this. I have not taken it apart but the dealership fixed his the other day - they mentioned he or we didn't have the correct tool to fix what was wrong - don't know if that is BS or real, as I said, I have not taken it apart nor do we have a spare. They said something was loose underneath...? FWIW, we could forcibly twist his connector - we would get a spark sound and the car would start. The dealership only charged him $80 to fix it, should have been free but he's 8k out of the 60k warranty.

Tricks to their trade. I'd love to get a mechanic's point of view as to what is being done.

Hey I wanted to know if they told you how they know for sure that it was the BOX at the battery? this is happening to me but it is intermittent so when I bring it in to the dealership I'm sure that the car will be starting like it should and they won't be able to replicate.
Usually when this happens to me I can get the car to start by either keep trying with the brake or holding the push button start down without the brake.
Thanks
Mike

So just went out and shoveled the driveway... moved the car like normal to the front of the house and by habit I shut the car off. Right away I went to start it and nothing. I tried for over 5 mins to start it and trying the bypass start and nothing would work. Then I put the car in drive then back to park and shut down the car... one last time I tried and it started right up. It was definitely a Clark Griswold moment. Does this help anyone being able to diagnose what could be the problem?
