  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to dealer today for service and noticed a sign in the lobby, All 2009 Genesis include 1 year of carbon offsets (based on 15k miles).

I didn't know about this when I bought, but it is nice to know....

hmmm....good question!!

Anybody?

Hyundai Unveils Carbon Offset Program For Genesis Sedans

Hyundai Motor America and Carbonfund.org unveiled the Genesis Forest Project at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show and announced that the venture will offset the entire first year of emissions for all 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedans sold in the U.S.

Hyundai expects that the Genesis Forest Project will offset about 93,000 metric tons of CO2 through the conservation and reforestation of 3,000 acres of tropical forest in Brazil. Carbon offsets will be retroactively applied to all 2009 Genesis sedan sales, which began in June, and continue through the end of the year.

Hyundai ranked fifth in the list of most improved automakers from Jan. to Sept. 2008 released by Clean Green Cars.

Sorry. A carbon offset is trading carbon ouputs...

in the case of the Genesis, tree plantings which absorb enough carbon to equal the carbon (exhaust) output of the Genesis.....

For Greenies this means the Genesis is a ZERO footprint vehicle. (even better than a hybrid).

I asked the dealer about the cost of buying additional years (only the first year in included), He didn't have the information but promised to get back to me.

this was documented by a number of "green sites"

And here is the Hyundai site (not linked to the corporate USA site)

Basically your car is a net ZERO emissions vehicle for the first year.

I should be clear, I don't buy into the idea we are in a global warming event which will lead to a century of escalating temps resulting in something between milder winters to the end of the world.

I DO like pissing on people.... I already love to chat with Prius owners about the strip mining involved in making nickel batteries and the "impact" of building a hybrid compared to a conventional car.... the time to recover the additional investment,,, but now I can "claim" ZERO emissions thanks to the Carbon offset program.

You should just tell Prius owners that you would rather have a 4 door sedan from a domestic company that gets just as much gas mileage out of it in the Ford Fusion hybrid. Now you can have the looks and the ability to not lose your sedan for some stupid looking egg that comes with a boring everything

Think Al Gore, and the global warming alarmist community. Then click here to read what George Will had to say about it yesterday, in the Washington Post.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Al Gore recently "greened" his house by converting to all things ecological, at a substantial cost. According to the local power company, he now burns MORE fossil fuels in maintaining said house (Carthage, TN, where he claims to be from) than before he made the change. David Letterman (among others) made comedic news of it at the time it was reported. So, Gore decides it's OK, since he says he buys "carbon offsets". Guess who owns that company? Yeah, Al Gore...he's taking money from his left pocket, and putting it in his right pocket!

And all for the good of the planet....that's actually cooling (not warming)!

And even better...there's a huge chunk of money in the stimulus (stimulus?) bill for global warming types.....sounds like some of their friends just got paid off!

Since when is the weather a political issue that should be decided with money....MY (OUR) money???

Dan

Al Gore....

Global Warming....

What a joke!

However, it is kinda cool to say that I have a ZERO emissions vehicle! :)

So, If I just plant a tree every year for each car I own, I will have zero emission vehicles....hmmm! Ok, well, I should be good for the rest of my life because I love Peaches and I always throw the seeds out the window into the fields!!! I must be getting carried away with this....HA!

Zero "carbon" emissions. That does not include all the other pollutants besides CO2.

CO2 isn't even a pollutant, anymore than Oxygen is! High CO2 levels even promote plant growth. Isn't that a good thing?

AlGore has made a fortune on this scam of the century. I am sure that he also owns "carbon offsetting" companies too.
I would venture to say that if someone researched it, I'd bet that most of the politicians that are pushing strict global warming restrictions are already invested in carbon offset companies.
It would be interesting to know who?

Increasing levels of CO2 supposedly causes global warming. Obviously, one cannot say that CO2 is inherently bad, but if it increases significantly then the earth may get a lot warmer, the polar ice caps will melt, and many places (like most of FL) will be under water. Whether or not you think that is a problem, depends on your point of view.

When you're between ice ages, where 50 meter thick glaciers reach as far south as the Great Plains, warm weather is a good thing. No, it's not good for people that live in low lying areas, but no weather conditions are good for everyone. Our friends in Canada and Northern Europe should enjoy and take advantage of the wonderful between-ice-ages weather. :)

Too much of anything has its problems. That even applies to oxygen, as the Apollo I astronauts found out.
