I do this in my 2015 Genesis sedan. Luckily the navigation screen is recessed and at an angle so that I can place my phone in the space provided. It's great for my son when he's bored. It's great for me when I need to think and not answer the million questions about life he has for me when I pick him up from school or wherever. Why not just watch on your phone or tablet? No restrictions there. And you can BT into the car audio system.
The downside to this is screen size. You're limited by the screen on your phone and he sits in the back, so it's not great. My G70 has a flat screen, so this isn't even an option.
Another scenario that happens is when I'm talking to a passenger about something, like a YouTube clip or whatever and you want that person to see it before the conversation can continue. It's a lot easier and more convenient if it's all through one system and you can access it by voice or vehicle controls.
