  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Carplay Playing Videos While Driving

Why not just watch on your phone or tablet? No restrictions there. And you can BT into the car audio system.
I do this in my 2015 Genesis sedan. Luckily the navigation screen is recessed and at an angle so that I can place my phone in the space provided. It's great for my son when he's bored. It's great for me when I need to think and not answer the million questions about life he has for me when I pick him up from school or wherever.

The downside to this is screen size. You're limited by the screen on your phone and he sits in the back, so it's not great. My G70 has a flat screen, so this isn't even an option.

Another scenario that happens is when I'm talking to a passenger about something, like a YouTube clip or whatever and you want that person to see it before the conversation can continue. It's a lot easier and more convenient if it's all through one system and you can access it by voice or vehicle controls.

You're ignoring what doesn't fit in the example for you. Your situation is not every driver, nor is your preference, which OP never asked. This has nothing to do with being old fashioned, it's just sounds like old people being rude and judgemental.

I gave an example of children watching something, which would be convenient if you have a restless child and long drive. Or are you going to shun then from your car because they don't want to have a conversation with you? I also gave an example of being stuck in traffic, where if you're not moving, there's not much harm?
I think you were correct with judgmental. Not so much with rude, that is just honesty.
I also had a restless child.

When our kids were little, we used to have minivans and SUVs with rear seat entertainment system. That worked well until the kids started fight over what to watch. Then we got them the individual DVD player that can each store a gazillion movies on SD card, and we could move them to a new vehicle. Now... they all each have their own phones and tablet/ipads, so it's not even worth rigging up the seat back screens any more.

As for me in the driver's seat, if I'm stuck in the car for any length of time, tranny would be in Park, which removes any infotainment restrictions. If it's stop and go traffic, then I really need to keep eyes on the road and maintain surrounding traffic awareness. Regardless of how boring it might be, that is still the safe thing to do. I'm good with just listening. My old '09 Gennie's Lexicon was the best OEM system I've ever auditioned. G70's Lexicon system is almost as good, except soundstage and imaging aren't quite as good, but still thoroughly listenable.

If you have Android, then you could use AAAD with Fermata Auto. Not sure about Apple and Carplay though, sorry.

Update** I was able to Jailbreak an old iPhone XS with a tweak called Carbridge and i'm able to play videos while driving. carbridge.app for the website

Now about that seatbelt. It’s wrinkling your clothes.

Sounds to me like you have not figured out how to control your wife :). Okay, neither have I ;)
I think the wife control button may be hidden in the settings somewhere

People act as though the screen is the only thing in the car that can be distracting. I hope all the judgmental people aren't also the ones yapping it up with their buddy (which is way more distracting and takes focus off the road) or drinking hot coffee in their car. I do notice a lot of peanut gallery comments going on that is just noise on these threads, rather than people answering the person's question. Darn it, now I have added to the noise. lol.

Yes, since there are other possible distractions, we should add as many more and bigger ones as we can.

Exactly, instead of answering the question (or ignoring it if they're not interested) they'd rather give their opinion on whether not you should do it. The same crowd goes on the performance forums to say people shouldn't tune/mod their cars b/c it's fast enough. Opinions on questions not asked.
This is a somewhat older thread-I too have added to the noise.

I guess anything is possible if you can get into the computer. Given the laws against it and possible liability Genesis certainly is not going to make it easy. Nor would Apple lawyers.

If you figure it out, let me know where you are so I can avoid being near you on the road.
When I was big into Dodge Chargers, there was an electronic plug and play unit called a LockPik, which when installed would not only make Nav changes on the fly but you could play dvd's over the screen. Try querying lock pik or lock pick.
