  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 Tech package Genesis. Recently the cd player says “disc error” whenever a cd is loaded. Happens to all discs and just started during some very cold weather. Part of the reason I bought the car was the ability to play Dvd Audio discs, which sound truly amazing. My local dealer said they don’t fix those types of problems; so was hoping for any suggestions. Thanks

Possibly condensation on the laser lens or the discs due to the cold weather.

Swap out several different disks and if still the same problem, bet the internal laser has crapped out. I’ve had it happen on several home players before. Fixing it is cost prohibitive so just tossed the home unit and bought new. Finding an electronics shop willing to tackle a head unit issue and that has access to service schematics and parts will be a challenge I’m thinking.

It happens to all discs, so something must have went bad. Had my local Hyundai dealer give me an estimate and they came back with $4,500 to replace! Found one locally out of a wrecked car for $75.00. Worth a shot…

Just for fun I checked with my local Hyundai dealer to find a possible replacement unit. They quoted me $4,500 and didn't seem to think that was a bad deal! I found one pulled from a wrecked car and they wanted $75.00 for it. What the heck I think I'll chance it...

Let us know how that goes? Have no idea if these head units are plug and play or if the dealer has to do anything so the head unit and car play well together? $4500 replacement cost is insane. About $4k too high.
