If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Cell Phone Mounting

I purchased a mount from Proclip. The mount is customized to fit on the Genesis's center console. Two parts, the mount and adjustable phone holder. Its a perfect fit for a galaxy 5 with otterbox commuter case.
I have the same thing, I also use a short coiled USB charger with my Iphone 6 with this setup!
Worth it!

how does that work with the cup holder, it seems as if a larger phone was there like a iPhone plus, it would be in the way if you had a tumbler in the cup holder.

I'm struggling with this as well. I've always used windshield mounts, but because of the rake of the windshield, no matter where I put my phone (which is a big phone to begin with), it's always too close to my face or blocks my vision. And I definitely need a mount as well because I'm either running Waze or Escort Live.
Waze is rumored to be available with "Apple Play" soon. I've been using a holder that sticks into a vent (on my former Acura RDX and now on my Genesis G80 as well. That said, I'm impressed with Apple Play and Maps. The main thing I don't like about AP and Maps is that I can't expand the screen very much.

I was under the impression that Car Play was not an app on the iPhone (AA is also an app on the phone). If that's true and you have a non Ultimate model, then why do you need a holder for a phone? I'm having a heck of a time finding a short (~1') that works with my Pixel 2 XL (keeps getting disconnected). If I found one, I'd just put my phone in the space near the USB port and 12V sockets. As it stands, I have a 5' cable that works perfectly, so I put the phone in the space right before the center console.

If you have the Ultimate model, then forget everything I said.

The only reason I use a holder is I prefer Waze. AFAIK, Apple Play is not an app. However, it loads automatically when plugged into the Lightning port (no blue tooth). As soon as Waze supports Apple Play, I'll retire the holder for rental cars.

My model is the Sport that includes everything but the kitchen sink. IF I try to hold my phone while using Waze, the slightest touch send it to Timbutu. My holder is a Kenu. The phone is the iPhone X. Not sure if the Kenu would handle an IP Plus.

I use this in my 2015. Plugged into right power outlet. Works great.

I'll grab a pic later. I can't remember the brand but I have a 2-sided adhesive mount that I trimmed to fit over the bright/annoying 'passenger air bag' light.

I use the Evutec AER Karon (carbon-look iPhone case with built-in magnet) and I love it. You can also get vent-mounts which I put in my wife's car and have with me for when I travel/have rentals

Maybe it doesn't apply in this case, but a couple of years ago I had a case with a magnet that worked FINE EXCEPT that it was whacking my credit cards when I made the mistake of putting the phone in the same pocket as my wallet. I think I whacked 2 or 3 cards before I figured it out. Apparently the magnet was erasing the code that is stored in credit cards.

Good point! Haven't had that issue yet but good to be aware of.

Here's my mount. Very low profile and my phone just sticks to it. (via magnetic case). And the BRIGHT orange passenger airbag light is no longer visible at night!

So the tiny orange light bugged you at night but the GIANT red triangle light right next to it doesn't?? :)

I'm not a fan of the location of the pictured mount due to it covering up the climate controls and other buttons.

The orange light is infinitely brighter at night. To my eyes anyway lol

I use auto climate, never touch those buttons. And those are the only buttons it blocks, nice thing about the magnets...can orient your phone in any way you want. I throw my phone on there in 'landscape' mode...doesn't block anything but the climate buttons that I've never touched.

The mount head can rotate enough to keep the phone away from the cup holder and any buttons that I'd have to use while driving. A tall drink in the front cup holder will block the screen, but I can use the rear cup holder without a problem. It only blocks the "v Seek" and "Track ^" buttons on the console (2015 Ultimate; other packages may have different buttons in these locations). I don't recall ever using these buttons (previous and next can be done from the steering wheel controls).

I don't usually look at my phone while driving, so I prefer it being low and out of the way. I normally keep Waze running so I can listen to the voice prompts/warnings. I also like it being close to the outlet so I don't have to run the charging cable across the dash. I can see how people who look at their phone more frequently (e.g. following turn-by-turn directions) would want a higher mount.

Lastly, I've used the ProClip mount for several months, and it seems very solid and well constructed. If you prefer a lower mounting location and are willing to pay the price, I'd highly recommend it.

I actually purchased this mount and installed it. Overall it is ok. But it does vibrate a bit. Also after one week the phone cradle part has come loose. I suspect I will need to put some locktite on it to keep it from getting loose due to the vibration.

I’ve used proclip mounts on other cars in the past though they tend to be a bit overpriced for what they are.

lol at the sticker on the first pic

i assume this is for folks that have the ultimates? us lowly tech folks just use the little cubby and connect to aa or cp ;) my galaxy s9+ fits in there perfect even with case.

I have found two options I like that use magnetic mounts attached to the vent or CD player.

The vent mount is a hybrid of two items on Amazon, the mount clip and a qi magnetic charger. Since the ball mount is modular it could fit with any mount that has the same design which is pretty common. I think it is a standard 17mm diameter ball as I have tried it with several other mounts. It is pretty stable and is what I use. The qi charging is so so and just barely keeps up with the discharge but it's ok for what I need.

Here is the cd mount option. Most of the cd mounts I found protruded too far and interfered with the gear shifter. But this one was relatively low profile and mounted it higher.

Again this has a modular ball mount so you can attach any other style mount of it has the similar ball attachment.

I prefer the vent mount due to it being higher up and doesn't block the aesthetics of the console from the driver.
