  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I realize I always have digital speed on my dash since that is what I am used to. However there is a speedometer dial as well so center digital speed display is redundant. Does anyone regularly drive with one of the other features on the center display? Economy, Mode and so forth, and use the dial for speed reference? If so why do you choose that?

I have the digital in the HUD but that aside, never cared for digital from the time it came out in cars in the 1980s. I guess I'm just a traditionalists on some things. My dash is never set that way. I always have the odometer/mpg/elapsed time on view.

I keep mine on the performance gauges. Love watching my oil temp gauge so I know when I can punch it and stop babying it

I do the same when I'm in sport/driving aggressively. Watching the G-force is quite a bit of fun too

I also keep it on the gauges, mainly so I can see the engine temp. The only exception is when I'm on a long drive in the daytime and wearing sunglasses which washes out the HUD, then I keep it on the digital speedo to better manage the cruise control.

It's somewhat ridiculous at that point because there are basically three speedometers in front of me.

"No officer, I have no clue what speed you clocked me at" :roflmao:

Usually on the oil temp because I baby the car until I get to operating tempreture. Then it's always on the digital speed because of speed cameras.

Digital speed should be displayed all the time. Seems like a waste of space to just display one thing at a time.

It's cool how it displays mpg after turning off the engine that's why I don't use the mpg that screen.

Ironically I got pulled over for doing 79 when all three speedo's swore I was going 77.

My father was a driver and victim in a bad car crash when I was 17. Lots of bad injuries, damage. There were lawsuits between and among the three vehicles and their insurers and whatnot. His lawyer coached him about deposition and testifying and that he should never answer the question "How fast were you going" ( or other wording) because the opposing lawyer will say he then must have been looking down at the dash, or not concentrating on the road ahead, averting his eyes, or something that he can never retract. I recalled that lesson deeply.
On the times I have been stopped I have NEVER given a numerical answer to an officer, and he is usually frustrated and tries to make me say a number, which I resist. I say I was focused on my job as a driver, staying aware of all around me, moving with traffic, etc. There is never an officer report with my comment about speed number, never.

Good tip. The times I was stopped the police told me how fast I was going. And they were correct. Fortunately they wrote me up for less. Also important not to act like a jerk and give them a hard time.

When I have been stopped for speed I have almost always had what is called "selling the citation". This is when officer says he will write me for less than the radar readout, so he has already "done me a favor". Or he will write for "unsafe equipment" (lower fine and points) so he is "helping" me. This puts him in an even further superior position and if the presumed offender wishes to be offensive he can write for the full amount. I received a citation just outside Tifton, Georgia a few years ago. He wrote for the full amount and made no effort to discuss or sell the citation which surprised me. At home I put Tifton in my googleator and SPEED TRAP exploded all over my computer. Then I understood.
