  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Afternoon Fam,

Has anyone thrown on a professional Ceramic Coating onto your car? I.E. Ceramic Pro, Opti-Coat or Faynlab?

How has your experience with it, is it durable and easily maintained? And does it really add that deep glass look?

I'm considering getting it done, but the prices are pretty steep for it!

One of my friends is doing it, basically from what it sounds like its almost another harder layer of clear coat and quite involved to put on, it does not however protect against rock chips and what not, so you will have to do either both or get the 3m clear bra and have the coating on top. Supposed to last 2 to 5 years on the diamond coating but I don't buy it.

He quoted me 675 and 3 days to get it done.

Haven't done it myself yet, but plan to do so very soon. You mention that the prices are steep, how steep are you seeing? Locally in San Antonio they offer full exterior detail, decontamination, and ceramic coating of the entire car for 500 + Tax.

The dealers here are pushing either Simonize or Armor All coatings. From a quick Google search, the Opti Coat runs from $400 to $1200. You can buy the chemicals from Amazon for much less. They are also good profit for the dealer and price negotiable.

The dealer tried to sell me the ArmorAll coating, on sale from regular $999 for $699 but took $300. Looks good but I have no idea how it compares with the ceramic coatings.

Recently had a Ziebart "Diamond Gloss" done to my '15 Genesis. I've had this process applied to the last 3 vehicles I've owned with no issues and excellent results. Ziebart's latest product is a ceramic coating process for $1000. I opted for the proven Diamond Gloss for $300.

Well here are the products they offer including the price. As you can see the price includes a 1 or 2 step paint correction (Wash/Decontamination/Polish).. I really tempted to get the Opti Coat Pro as it is a 7 year warranty on it... but it's still quite a bit of money.

I had my brother-in-law put it on mine and absolutely love it.

Made mine a bit more blue in the sun than before. Cleaning and maintaining is definitely easier. I am not great about consistently washing my car so it stays cleaner looking in between washes and after a regular wash looks like it was recently waxed.

Im not sure how much it really protects against rock chips. I bought mine used so it already had some.

Im not so much worried about the rock chips as to the durability and long lastivity of the coating.

Did it to my '15 Ibiza Blue Coupe. Cost $800, and looked terrific for the two years I had it. (Planned on keeping it longer; that didn't work out.) Didn't make the investment with my G80, as it's a lease.
