  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Changed my alternator two times, however battery light eventually comes back on. Eventually the car will start to overheat. If I turn AC on, no cold air and car eventually starts to overheat. When replacing the alternator, do I have to use an OEM part for the car to run efficiently. Will appreciate if someone has any info about this. Thanks.

Are you changing the alternator because the battery light is coming on? That light indicates a problem with the charging circuit. While often this problem is the alternator (since it is a wear item), sometimes it is something else such as the wiring or another electronic module. Always, there are troubleshooting steps to be taken to diagnose the problem before just throwing a part at it. If you are not equipped to do this diagnosis, you will need to take the car to someone or somewhere that is.

Is the overheating happening only when stopped or at slow speeds, or at high speeds? It is probably not directly related to your electrical problem, but never say never. Again, a lot more info is needed to help diagnose this problem.
