  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What changes were made from 2010 to 2011? Did a brief search and didn't see any results. Thanks.

The only changes I could tell from comparing 2010 to 2011 brochures was that everything is standard on 2011 V8's, and that 2011 V8's have 10 more HP. Anyone know how Hyundai did that? Just computer tuning?

The HP is the same as the 2010 Genesis (385 HP). I can not remember but I believe it was early summer that some recalculations showed the engine was producing 10 more HP than stated.

The bump in 10 hp came late in the 2010my here is a quote from news article " Hyundai Genesis Tau V8 is getting massaged for 2011 with a bump of ten ponies, bringing it up to 385 HP. How? More valve lift, intake manifold tweaks, low-friction coating on the pistons, and iridium spark plugs."

I had a 2009 4.6 and now have a 2011 4.6. Appearance-wise the motors appear outwardly the same. The 2009 motor cover fits the 2011.

My understanding is that the exhaust valves were enlarged, and that the intake manifold was tweaked. The 2009 seemed to have a step-up in its power delivery, "much like coming onto the cams" around 4000 rpm +. The 2011's variable cams have much smoother transition.

Hyundai claims that the 2011 is 0.5 sec 0-60. Seems to me that it would take much more than 10 hp. to lower a 4000 lb car's 0-60 time by 0.5 sec. My 2011 seems much more powerful than the 2009. It feels more like 25 hp.

Hyundai continues to make unannounced running changes to the Genesis. The 2011's suspension seems more composed. Its rear shocks have more rebound dampening.

The 2011 has Smart Cruise Control.
I have a 2011, 3.8L and it has it.
A friend has a 2010, 4.6L and it does not.

Hyundai made changes to the suspension on the 2010 model consisting of changes in spring/shocks rates and beefier rear stablizer. The springs were slightly softer, and shocks made a little firmer to compensate. These changes were announced by Hyundai.

No suspension changes made to 2011 that I know of (compared to 2010). More suspension changes made in 2012.

Late model year V8's for the 2010 model year got the upgraded engine with 10 more hp. 2010 V8's built before March 1, 2010 had 375 hp and 2010 V8's with build dates starting March 1, 2010 had 385 hp. Basically, a 2010 V8 with a build date of March 1, 2010 or later is the same car as a 2011 V8 (assuming you got the Technology Package, which came standard on all 2011 model year V8's).

Does your friends 2010 4.6L V8 have the TECH package?

I have a 2010 3.8L Prem/Tech and it has the Adaptive cruise control which I think is the same as Smart Cruise control.

Yes, his 2010, 4.6L does have the tech package.
For 2011 they call it the smart cruise control. Maybe they had it for 2010 but called it adaptive cruise control.
His 2010 does not have it so maybe it wasn't included as part of the tech package except late 2010, 3.8L models and then included on all 2011 models.
