Changing the badging

I wonder what dealer quotes were to change the badging. I might add that thereason I am doing it is strictly aesthetics. It just looks so much better. I would not care if it had an "H" in the center. My dealer wanted what Ithought was an exhorbitant sum which is why I purchased them myself for $32.

I can tell you it isnt hard at all to do this yourself and requires very little skill. I did this on a different vehicle but the same idea applies. I used fishing line and grabbed with both hands and worked it back and forth behind the emblem to separate the adheshive on the emblem from the car. Then use goo gone to remove the residual adhesive. I do recommend periodically waxing the area when using the goo gone to avoid marring or scratching the surface. Then make sure that the area is completely cleaned, I use rubbing alcohol and gently go over the area to remove any residue and wax left behind, otherwise the adhesive wont adhere as well to the paint. One thing I have to assume is that the wing badge has the adhesive already mounted on it, so I would assume all you have to do is remove the backing and then line the the two prongs of the emblem to the two holes where the H emblem was. Press down on it for a little while to make sure the adhesive sticks and you are good to go.

Finally got around to doing this myself. I bought the wing badge a while back but haven't had the time to install it. I followed all the good advice elsewhere on this forum.

Warm up the current badge area with a hairdryer, and then use fishing line or dental floss to work behind the badge to break the existing double-sided adhesive. (I used dental floss as I couldn't be bothered to go and buy fishing line - floss works pretty well, except that you get through several yards of it!) Goo Gone and a strong thumbnail worked off the old adhesive. Clean up the area with rubbing alcohol, peel the backing off the wing badge and press into place. Simple as that! And it looks great!

I just changed the rear emblem and added the front emblem yesterday. It definitly dresses up the car.

I like the wing badge for the front above the grill. But there is no emblem there now, so that would mean having to drill for the posts on the emblems I've seen so far (ebay). Are there other badges available? Sources. One that doesn't require drilling the hood would be great.

If you search the forum, there are other threads on this topic. Most front-wing badge installers cut off the posts on the badge with a Dremmel tool or similar. Drilling holes in the hood is a bad idea!

as wordman stated please dont drill holes in your hood, very bad idea. I personally dont like the emblem there, I think its a bit much, but if you like it just remove the posts. It will mount just fine with the adhesive. Just take your time lining everything up so its not crooked

Thanks Woodman, GS300- I did find the thread that told me to dremel off the posts. Keeping the H on the back...but do like the emblem for the hood. Thanks again.
