  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I posted this question on a Genesis SubReddit but noticed I didn't post it here. I identified a chattering sound early on during ownership of my Genesis that seemed to come from the passenger side of the vehicle near the front tire. It seemed to only occur when traveling around 25 to 35 mph. I assumed at first that it was moisture in the mornings on the brake rotors and then later on assumed it was a flat spot in the tire or a possible wheel bearing issue. Currently my vehicle is being serviced for a warranty repair on the oil pan and I asked them to check the issue. The adviser stated today that the issue was found to be drive train related and I may be getting a new drive train fully covered under warranty. Just an FYI if anyone has a similar issue that they hear.

What model, drive, trim, and year are you driving? Thanks

Wow... entire drivetrain?!

Curious about the sound...

On my 2015 I notice what I'd describe as a tick tick tick (maybe even clicking sound) coming from front passenger side of the car. Only happens when driving at low speeds but isn't constant, Some days it stays quiet.

Was the "chattering" loud? I have to keep my radio volume off to hear my ticking sound.

Has the clicking noise always been there Alfer?

I'd guess it's been making the noise for a year or maybe 2.

I'd almost bet that it could be a brake pad occasionally skipping off a ever so slightly warped rotor.

One time I had a screw in one of my tires that did the very same thing - ticking @ low speed, then inaudible when going faster. Sometimes wouldn't even hear it at all. Didn't even know there was a screw in it until I had the tires replaced. After that, it went away.

"Ghost in The Machine"... These cars are otherwise so quiet, that even a small noise is like someone banging on a metal garbage can!

I was thinking the same thing!
Could be a misnomer when they mean a driveshaft, u-joint, maybe a rear. There have been a couple of instances of that.

Driveshaft would sound more reasonable...

You are most likely correct EdP! I would like to see the underneath of a AWD V6. Or a V8 must be really tight for room ?

Update today. A rep from the CPO warranty group inspected the vehicle at the dealership yesterday. They are coming out again to inspect tomorrow. It sounds like they conducted some further diagnostics and my vehicle may need an all new transmission according to a different service rep that I spoke to on the phone. I'll update as things progress. In response to a previously posed question the ticking noise was quiet enough that it could be hidden by the radio being on. I never noticed any other transmission issues that would normally pop up like hard shifting or being stuck between gears.
