  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Chattering Sound Under Acceleration

Update today. A rep from the CPO warranty group inspected the vehicle at the dealership yesterday. They are coming out again to inspect tomorrow. It sounds like they conducted some further diagnostics and my vehicle may need an all new transmission according to a different service rep that I spoke to on the phone. I'll update as things progress. In response to a previously posed question the ticking noise was quiet enough that it could be hidden by the radio being on. I never noticed any other transmission issues that would normally pop up like hard shifting or being stuck between gears.
Bizarre... Sounds like they're just they're just throwing parts at it. But if it's on their dime & they're covering a loaner, who cares?

Nice !! I wish that was true for here, 18degrees minus 2 windchill. I just might pull up stakes and move down there.
70 here in Houston - was 38 this morning, a little nippy for around here...

Yeah so far the experience has been great. It sucks to be in a rental that's not as nice but it's for free which is great. They've already fixed the leaking oil pan issue which they originally quoted me $1,300 to fix so in the end the CPO was definitely worth it.

Good for you Sarge 101st! What year is Genesis is it that you own?

Update on drive train repair issue. I heard from the service adviser today that the extended warranty company would not honor the repair. Here is a breakdown of what happened in case any of you notice the same situation with your vehicle.

1. Chattering sound noticed immediately after purchase of 2015 Genesis Sedan 5.0 non-ultimate near front passenger tire area at speeds between 25 to 35 mph. The sound is reminiscent of cards in bicycle spokes but muted due to the vehicles soundproofing. Sound identification as well as more accurate locating of area originating from is not helped by rolling down window.

2. Vehicle brought to local Hyundai dealership for repair of small leak in oil pan. Repair is covered by vehicle's included extended warranty (included with CPO purchase.) I mentioned to the service adviser the chattering sound and she stated they would inspect and advise.

3. Vehicle oil pan leak is repaired but service department is having trouble locating cause of chattering sound. Vehicle is placed in air on lift while someone mimics driving to allow techs to locate sound with stethoscopes but vehicle sensors prevent this test from playing out as it was constantly alarming that a crash was imminent due to walls of service department. Tech's were also unable to locate cause of sound while test driving vehicle.

4. Service adviser stated they reached out to genesis directly and their response indicated a known issue that has affected multiple similar models. She stated their only recommended fix for the sound is to replace the drive shaft. Extended warranty company would not cover the replacement cost as the issue wasn't deemed to be detrimental to daily usage.

In conclusion if you notice a sound similar to the one described in this thread then the only solution according to what was relayed to me by my Hyundai service adviser, who was told by Genesis directly, is to replace the drive shaft. Unfortunately unless your service department is able to show a damaged drive shaft or actually prove the sound is coming from the drive shaft then you probably won't get the replacement covered.

Do you have the Hyundai extended warranty?

Do you have the Hyundai extended warranty?

I do. It covered the oil pan replacement with a small $50 deductible but wouldn't cover the replacement on the drive shaft without absolute proof that it was the faulty part causing the noise.

I understand! Thanks good luck with the repairs. I have been fortunate not to have encountered any problems that have been discussed.

New update on this existing thread. I went to pick up the vehicle either the 9th or the following day on the 10th and I got a news update. My service adviser stated that she had reached out to her manager and he had authorized an updated diagnosis for the drive train issue/chattering sound. Whatever the manager did it convinced the rep from the extended warranty company to authorize a full transmission replacement. I was initially excited about a new transmission but a little bummed when she said the transmission was 4 to 6 weeks out on receiving. I know it's a first world problem but I'm in a boring rental car compared to the Genesis.

My service adviser was smart and gave me a very lengthy time estimate but today I found out that everything is done and my Genesis is ready for pick up tomorrow morning.

So in conclusion the extended warranty covered a full transmission replacement, with the original oil pan replacement, and a rental car for 27 days for a total out of pocket cost of $50!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It did not. Issue still persists. I'm going to attempt to see if the dealership locally will swap a driveshaft from another Genesis/G80 to test the theory but I'm betting it'll get shot down
