Check engine light at 1,300 miles

I've had my 2022 G70 2.0 since June of this year. I haven't driven it too much because of remote work. The check engine light turned on last weekend at 1300 miles. I dropped it off at the dealer during the week and today they let me know that the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know if this is an issue that happened too early? I did notice that I had been averaging lower than advertised MPGs.
 
Yeah, I've seen several reported cases of the HP fuel pump failing early, but never this early. May I ask what's the build date of your car? It's listed on the VIN label at the bottom of the 'B' pillar, visible when you open the driver's door, but you can see it better with both doors open. I have 2,6xx on my 2023 2.0T (build date 05/22), and hoping it dodged the bullet on that issue, but we'll see. Hey, which code did you get via BlueLink? Just curious.

The build date on mine says 3/22. I got it back today so I'll see how it performs the next few weeks.

I didn't get any code. I took it in for service and they did their thing. You using blue link for genesis? I use the genesis intelligent app.
 
Yeah, it has a different name for Genesis, but same crap. Ha ha. We're supposed to get DTCs while the subscription is active. Strange you didn't.

Looks like they were going to my spam folder. I didn't get a notification from the app, but maybe I haven't configured tat alert yet.

So after driving it for a few days, the check engine light came back last night. A few days earlier I noticed that the engine lagged while flooring it from a roll. Not feeling good about this with such low miles.

I always thought fuel pumps either worked, or they did not? Dealer should have been able to measure pressure output of the HP pump to verify things. If your engine light is back on tells me the dealer probably did not find the real root cause of the first light. Let us know what they jack with the 2nd go round? Your paperwork should provide the code they pulled from the OBDII port to compare with the first code they pulled So would be interesting what they write up?
 
Your Genesis connected services includes getting codes, so call Genesis CS and ask how you could see them. I've never had one, so not sure where to look either, but it should be on the website for sure. And on the phone as well, I'd think. Give them a try, and report back. Good luck.

On the 2.0T at least, the HP fuel pump is mechanical, driven by the exhaust cam, so an internal seal could be bad or something, not being able to achieve full pressure. And same thing could happen to an electric one, by the way. Your car should have a code for low fuel pressure, if that's the issue.

The code the first time around reads "P123300 is present. Upon inspection found fuel to be mixed with engine oil. Caused by internal failure inside of high pressure fuel pump"

I just dropped it off this morning so we'll see what it is in a few days.

Thank you for this information. I will look in the app and contact them If I can't find it.
 
Late update: this issue was still with the fuel pump system. This time the rest of the fuel pump system was replaced. They had the car for about a month. Got it back in early December and added about another 1500 miles to it since and I've had no issues. Glad it was taken care of.

So what was it, exactly? The transfer pump, the high-pressure fuel pump driven by the cam, or both? Just curious, but glad it's resolved.

From what I remember, it was both the high and low pressure fuel pump. I may be wrong. But the second time around they said the issue was so small that it was difficult to get a reading on where the fuel pump issue was coming from. They had the shop foreman drive it for a weekend and that helped figure exactly what was bad.
