If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone,
So last night driving home from Atlantic city to Pittsburgh on I-76 I encountered somewhat of a problem with my 2015 3.8 ultimate Genesis. I was in the right lane going about 70 in Normal Mode, I decided to switch it over to Sport Mode to pass up a car and to test the Sport Mode on the highway. The next thing I realized I was going about 110MPH, which honestly didn't even feel like it (also have a radar detector lol) but also my check engine light started flashing and then it just stayed lit. I put it back in Normal mode, the car drove fine, no hesitation, no sifting problems, nothing at all, just the light was lit on my dash. I love this damn car but last night I was pretty upset the check engine light came on (5500 miles). This morning I decided to unplug the negative terminal off my battery hoping it would reset the ECU. To my luck, it worked, no check engine light and again it drives perfectly fine. Also I did the vehicle diagnostic, which is built into the BlueLink, and it shows that no issues have been found. Now, can someone explain to my WHY the check engine light came on after putting it in Sport mode at high speeds? Or whatever else could explain this.

Thanks

Hmm impossible to tell without pulling the code using an OBD2 reader. Probably a misfire but that guess is about as reliable as a presidential promise.

+1 on the OBD reader. I just picked up a $11 cheapie Bluetooth model off Amazon. Put torque on my tablet and have been amazed what data I can pull from the ECU. Give it a shot and let us know!!!

+2 I've been using Torque app for a long time. Very good for real time info and codes.

Interesting to hear about the Torque app. I'm not seeing it available for iPhone, however. Anyone have experience with the BlueDriver sensor and App? $100 CAD... just curious if it's worth it.

I just spent like 3 hours researching these devices on Amazon and Google and seems like that bluedriver is not worth it unless you are looking for and resetting advanced codes like transmission faults. I would be mainly using it for more basic faults as the more advanced codes I'll be taking it to the dealer as I won't be fixing a transmission and resetting.

As far as torque app goes seems that all the Bluetooth obd2 devices are for Android and so is torque. I went with the bafx unit as it's the most reviewed and is 4.5 rated...seems it would be heavier duty than the others...also got a couple switched to maybe solder the switch in to turn it on/off when the car is off.

Hmmm... drats. Although, Bluedriver is for iPhone. Unfortunate that it doesn't seem useful for basic codes.

when the check engine icon start to blink it tells that there is an error. if the error is found for second time the icon became on forever until the code is erased or battery disconnected
buy one odb2 Bluetooth device and connect it with Torque app

he has an iphone so it wont work as torque only works for android for now...the bluedriver looks pretty cool and there are good reviews for that so if you want bluetooth obd2 code reader I wouldnt hesitate on buying it if you dont care about the price.

it will read your basic codes along with more advanced codes and able to reset it whereas the cheaper ones will not reset the more advanced codes.

With all the replies I have decided to buy a Android bluetooth OBDII scan tool off Amazon for $21.99. I do have an older android phone laying around so i will use that to see the reading. Question is, will I still get a reading even tho the check engine light isn't lit anymore and hasn't been since I have disconnected the negative terminal and plugged it back in a few minutes later? But I guess I will find out in a few days for sure! Thanks again everyone for your input.

Next time it comes on, immediately drive it to the dealer so they can see the code. They tend not to fix anything unless they can see it.

you can check all vehicle stats and codes during driving with the ODB2 reader.
So when there is an event you can see it definitely.

****UPDATE*****
Finally got my OBDII scanner from Amazon today and I hooked it up to my Genni and surprise surprise it got NOTHING!! No codes found and the ECU even said there was no past history of a "check engine light". This is really odd but at the same time I'm glad there's nothing to worry about. I guess the check engine light that was lit on my way back from vacation was just a fluke.

It's possible (or maybe even probable) that the history was erased when the battery was disconnected.

But if it has not come back on, they probably nothing serious.

Could have been from a loose gas cap.

Im surprised your genesis’ dont have a torque gauge. My 2016 3.8 ultimate has a torque gauge with fuel consumption and oil temp gauge built in below the navigation computer/display and radio. Possibly wasnt a feature in the 2015.

Where do you connect the ODB2 reader? I looked in the fuse box, below left of the steering wheel, and didn't see anything? Sorry didn't realize I was in the wrong forum. I have a GV80. Still happy for any responses though :)

Misfire seems plausible... My old Acura TL would flash a check engine light whenever I took it over 105 or so. Light always went out soon afterwards though.
