  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Check out that tint!

Being that you are from Houston, I would go 40 everywhere except for 90 on windshield. That is perfectly legal in TX.

I actually did the complete opposite - went with 70 all around and 90 on the windshield. The thing is - I've been enjoying this Genesis being light and bright with that panoramic sunroof and windows not tinted. Having had quite a dark tint on my previous Genesis I like this ride much better "brightness-wise".

The TSER difference between CR40 and CR70 is only 10% - 60 vs 50%; however VLT difference is a whopping 30% - 39 vs 69%. We'll see how this holds up.

Here's a bit unrelated question. I know it's a big no-no for 3-5 days to roll-down the windows with newly installed tint. But I will have to roll down the driver's side front window for toll payment on Monday. Am I going to f'up the film? Or 1.5 days is somewhat enough and a single roll-down won't break/harm it?

Maybe just open the door on Monday to be safe - I see people with nonfunctioning windows doing this every now and then.

Do you have pics?

I agree. Stop on the right side of the lane to leave room to open your door, get out, and pay the toll. In the meantime, park the car in the sun to facilitate drying.

I actually went for a 50% VLT, which had to be special ordered since not many people use it, so I do understand your concern about the tint being too dark. But I am more than happy with 50%.

I didn't mean to get out of the car - that would be a really bad idea! I meant do what I've seen people with problem windows do many times: pull slightly past the toll and crack the door open to either throw the coins in the basket or pay the attendant out the rear of the door opening. It's not that difficult and better than risking ruining your tint film (assuming you don't have another car you can drive on Monday).

I don't understand the big deal about getting out of the car. I see people do it all the time. One time a guy in front of me stopped at the toll basket, got out of his car and came back to my car and asked me if I would him 4 quarters for a dollar (which I did).

XBOHDPuKC, don't go to work Monday or Tuesday. Both problems solved.;)

Maybe it's a regional thing but, here in the NY metro area, you'll really piss off the line behind you with the extra time you're delaying them - there will be horns blaring and expletives flying :D! Second, if someone in line behind fails to stop (it happens), you don't want to be outside of your vehicle.

I can honestly say that in the 34 years I've been driving I don't recall ever seeing anyone actually get out of their car to pay a toll (and NJ is full of toll roads) but I see people paying through the back or top of a partially open door pretty often (my wife said the same thing).

Especially if the weather forecast is good - extend that weekend :)

Wow! You still have to slow, stop and throw coins in the toll booth? In S. Florida, all our major toll roads collect tolls electronically via a "Sun Pass" transponder or "Toll by Plate" where a camera captures your plate # and then sends you a bill - which you'd better pay. We don't even have to slow down for the toll collection - on the Florida Turnpike, I routinely drive thru the collection point at 75 - 80 mph and my Sun Pass pays the toll just fine.

I still haven't got an eztag - they can't be transferred from a vehicle to a vehicle; gotta be getting a new one for each car.

3M crystalline 70 front and back; side shade is up on the back window.

And this is my least favorite thing - they hand to cut out space for stickers :(
But it definitely shows that 3M crystalline series has somewhat a blueish hue to it.

For the over 60 crowd I would recommend nothing darker than 70%.
Night driving and incipient cataracts is hazardous. You need all the light you can get as you age.;)

That's extremely presumptuous. The incidence of cataracts is not that high for people in their 60's, and most people who have that problem would know about it. Anything in the 35-50% range should be fine, unless someone knows they have a night vision problem (which can occur an any age, especially if someone has had lasik eye surgery).

No one said you have to pay cash, but it is option if one doesn't have a transponder. They can justify the cost of "Toll by Plate" in FL due to the number of tourists, but most toll roads don't have that option AFAIK.

presumptuous?? You might look up incipient." before symptoms" you can tell its mark 888 but you can't tell him much.

To say that anyone over 60 should not get a tint darker than 70% VLT because they "may" have a cataract is not only presumptuous, but ridiculous, insulting, and absurd.

Just got "illegal" 20% done today.. initially I asked for 35% (Legal) but after seeing it on a car outside, I decided to go dark..
