  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Let me add to the "mottled" trim problem. New 2019 G70 (Elite/Prestige) with driver side window trim showing brown dotted stains. Tried a lot of stuff to remove, but to no avail. Dealership said it was common and to bring car in and have all the window trim replaced. here's a pic if anyone is interested:

Did they say what it was and any way how to prevent it?

No, they gave me no indication about its cause. Only said it was common and the ALL the window trims will be replaced under warranty.

Before letting the dealership replace, try using some polishing compound if you haven't already. This is what I use.

I don't know about the wisdom of using compound on chromed plastic trim, it seems like it might get micro-scratched to hell that way.

If I had to theorize, I'd guess that maybe it's whatever substance they use to stain the trim darker is causing that issue.

EDIT: But I guess if its getting replaced anyway you might as well go to town on it and see if it works.

I didn't try the polish, but I did try some compound, alcohol, paint thinner...none of which worked. I would like to try some acetone, but afraid of getting on the paint

Definitely stay away from all of the harsh solvents. Not worth the risk of accidentally damaging your clear coat.

Mine gets water spots, but they've come off easily by regular washing and drying with a microfiber cloth.

my window moldings were all replace its a defect.

Agreed about the harsh solvents, but this was definitely not a water spot problem. It's a known issue, but I don't know what causes the stains. Anyway, all is replaced under warranty.

Toothpaste works well for removing those stains.

Do not use acetone - especially anywhere near your paint

My Dynamic has an issue with the black chrome window trim, but it’s not the same issue as yours.

The dealer has twice now performed a TSB for the window trim. It consisted of buffing the trim with a 3M compound, but it didn’t correct my issue.Maybe it’ll work for yours?
