  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which one should I use? They both have techron in them. Which one does Hyundai use? I know one is stronger than the other. I have a 2013 sedan 3.8. Is the fuel system cleaner too harsh? I know some people say not to use seafoam because it can mess things up. Thanks for your help!

Good stuff.

Also use their octane booster

I would probably use the fuel system cleaner every oil change. I used to use it on my 335i and when I first got it a dose of the fuel system cleaner helped smooth out the idle. Don't use seafoam, it's snake oil and I have never found any conclusive data to support it does anything. Sure there is a lot of white smoke, but that could be all it's doing. Turning white when it burns.

The Techron Concentrate is the most concentrated (Reference). Unless you can get one of the Proguard formulas for half the price of the Concentrate, I'd just go with the Concentrate.

I don't know about the first gen, but the 2015 manual recommends using a fuel additive every oil change if Top Tier gasoline is not used.

Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner and Hyundai Fuel System Cleaner are the same identical product. TECHRON is a registered trademark of Chevron Intellectual Property LLC, and can only be identified as such in products made by them, so they obviously are the supplier of Hyundai Fuel System Cleaner.

You can also tell they are the same by looking at the plastic bottles of each. The plastic bottles are identical, including the plastic molding imperfections at the seams of the bottle.

Chevron also makes another version called "Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner," which is basically the same as Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner but less Techron in it. You can get the same effect of Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner by just using a little more of the Fuel Injector Cleaner. The Fuel Injector Cleaner is sold in 6-packs at a great price at Costco if you are member.

Techron is also contained in lessor amounts in their gasoline sold at the pump.

I guess as long as I keep using Shell gas most of the time I'm covered. Walmart is $2.07 here, Shell $2.09. So maybe $0.30 more per fill up.

Hyundai Canada recommends BG 44k fuel treatment. I've never used it before this last oil change. I had a loud tick while parked if I would idle up to about 2k rpm. Dealership sourced it to a dirty fuel system. Used this stuff and the tick has gone away.
So all in all seems to work Fairly well. However the only place to get it here is directly through hyundai. So I'd be interested in what is more easily available at my parts stores that actually work.

What is the point? Most cleaners are meant to keep the back of the valves clean, not the injectors themselves. Since these are DI engines, it will never touch the valves. What is the benefit??
