Chipping Paint Inside Exhaust Tips and Scratch on Bumper

Hey Genesis owners,

My family just became the proud owner of a lightly used 2011 Hyundai Genesis V6 (base). As the nicest car we own, we were very excited to get the car.

I noticed a few (admittedly, very minor) cosmetic issues on the rear of the vehicle. First, the paint/coating is chipping away from the inside of the exhaust tips. Anyone else have this problem? Does the warranty cover this? (we have ~25k miles left) If not, has anyone repaired their own chips?

Also, I found a few deep scratches on the rear bumper trim piece. Is it possible to replace that trim piece individually from the rear bumper?

The deep scratches in the rear bumper are body shop time. You’re looking at about $250 to $300 to repair.
As for the exhaust tips you can carefully tape off the chrome and area around the tips and clean inside them with a solvent cleaner.
Then use high temperature flat black spray paint recoat the insides of the tips.

yes, the trim moldings can be replaced on the bumpers.

Warranty on manufacturer defects in the paint is one year. That does not include problems obviously caused by road hazards, other cars, etc. In other words, it might include paint bubbling, but not damage clearly caused by a foreign object.

I like the color too! Almost purple in the dark, and a brilliant red in the sun.

Pretty sure the paint warranty is three years for the original owner. I had a section of my 2009 Genesis repainted under warranty a couple of days before the three years was up.

You are correct. Paint: 3 years/36,000 miles (if defective in material or factory workmanship).

Most likely for the OP (who recently purchased a used 2011 Hyundai Genesis V6), the seller used some overly harsh chemicals and/or physical cleaning device to try and clean the inside of the tailpipe, resulting in the damage. It was not likely caused by a defect in material or factory workmanship.

Here is the exact wording on the paint warranty:

PAINT
Paint repairs are covered for the first 3 years from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Some minor cosmetic imperfections that are visible at delivery are covered for 1 year from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use, or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
