Wanted to check out what my car would look like with the trim and grill done in a dark gray kinda black color. I used the smoke plastidip. I really like the look and will probably get the side trim professionally done so it's permanent.

Here are some pics

thoughts opinions? I'm going to have the chrome trim on the side done permanently because it's actually a pretty big pain in the ass to plastidip, the grill was actually pretty easy. If anyone who is familiar with the chicago area know of any reputable custom paint shops let me know

i think the flat chrome look adds a touch of class...my used one came with chrome trim on the b and c pillars and i was going to remove them but i'm kinda getting used to the look and have decided to keep them for now.

I like it! You need darker wheels though… I hate chrome!

yes, I will be doing the wheels eventually. Would like to get my hands on some of the genesis sport wheels

Agree and disagree, lol really like the way the dark chrome trim looks but I'm not a fan of the really dark / black wheel treatment.
With black wall tires and dark/ black wheels everything in the wheel wells just seems to disappear.

I keep looking at the pics & can't really decide. I think the trim looks good. But I don't know I like it any better than stock. The grill doesn't look right. It may be the light and the way it affected the pic. The bumper area looks lighter than the rest of the car. So you get this dark ( grill ), light ( bumper ), then dark again ( car body ). Doesn't look right.

I have a 1st gen in black and I really like the brushed stainless look of the window trim on mine, it exudes class as it's intended.
The beauty of buying and customizing your own vehicle is you can, you signed on the dotted line and you are free to do whatever pleases you.
Blacked out or riced out it's the owner's choice but asking if it is to someone else's taste generally will not create a win-win answer.

I think darker trim and grill looks good.....it's just the color of bumper makes it look weird - was the bumper resprayed?

Yes so the difference in color will be noticeable because I used the smoke plastidip, first I did the side fenders a week ago which I used less coats which it gave a lighter gray color, the window trim was more coats so it gave a darker effect. The bumper I actually hit with a good amount of coats then used a silver metalizer coat which I didn't like so I put another couple of smoke coats on it. So yes the unevenness is noticeable.

Since these pics I have taken all the plastidip off the car. I'm going to be hitting it this weekend with just straight black and see how it turns out. I may leave the chrome edging around the grill and just do the inner part or do a gray gunmetal grill edge and black inner grill, fun thing is nothings permanent . Will update with pics again

If I were doing my side moldings and window trim I'd do body colour moldings and gloss black window trim. Probably then follow suit with gloss black front grill, since it'd look weird having just 1 chrome piece on the car.

IMO though, the only thing I'd actually do would be the side moldings, if that; I actually like the touches of brushed aluminum/steel/chrome (w/e tf it is), adds a touch of elegance to the car that I think.

I just got done completely re doing the grill, and window trim. Did 3 coats of black, then Graphite metalizer which gives it a nice glossy gunmetal finish on the black, then I coated 2 more layers of a protectant glossifier. It's dark out now so I can't even take pics :(

Leave for vacation early tomorrow so Idk if I'll get pics up before I go.
