  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I saw some Chrome Pillar covers on one of the aftermarket web sites and was thinking about trying them. Has anyone else tried any yet. They are the stick-on type and I am a little leery about that.

Put them on my Beige 3.8 Genesis.. Looks great, just take your time putting them on straight.. The local dealer here installs them and charges big bucks with their add on sticker package.. Think I paid around $60 with shipping for mine...

They should hold up fine even though they're stick-ons. Just make sure the surface is clean (use rubbing alcohol to remove and greasy/waxy residue) and be patient so you get them aligned properly.

Speaking of which, I really would like some gloss black pillar covers for my Genesis. The gloss black tends to blend in better w/ tinted windows. The only ones I have seen are on Korean Auto Imports, but they have an ugly (IMO) white border around the edge.

Concerning pillar covers, has anyone ever removed the stock pillar covers yet?
I've gotten a little dent in mine from pushing on the pillar to close the door. I would like to remove it so as to be able to fix the dent. I don't know how to remove them.

I like mine. See sig.

[Haven't added photos of 'em yet, but have had 'em on for 20k miles.]

I just installed them on my 2011 4.6. I think they look awesome!!! Look at my photo album to see the difference.

I put on a set of chrome covers last year and instantly hated them. I should have taped them in place first and taken a good long look. To me, they made the car look like some old guy's Buick (and I'm an old guy myself, but the Genesis is no Buick :D). In removing them I damaged the factory pillar finish and the only way I could fix it was to apply some black pillar covers (see my album for pics).

To each his own, but for me the chrome just doesn't look right.

I've reloaded pics of my Genesis with and without chrome pillars-- I think they really makes the car look great!!!

The stock pillar finish is a coating integral to the pillar, it is not a cover, as far as could tell. I damaged mine removing a set of ill-considered chrome covers and the only solution I could find was to install a set of aftermarket black covers (see my album). I'd prefer the stock look, but it's not worth a trip to the body shop. I'm not even sure how they would reproduce that matte black finish.

My R/R door pillar was damaged by a rock. I tried touch up paint but the job did not look to good. I took the car to the body shop and found out the finish on the pillar or applique is blackout tape part number Tape and the door you need it for, in my case Tape-RR. The body shop has to apply it as it is not a job that I do not think you would want to attempt yourself. The job is very detailed and takes 2.5 hours. If some one made an all black stick on pillar with no lines or Hyundai written on it I think I would have gone that route as I do not care for the chrome ones . I really do not care to have moldings removed and the glass removed as required to do this repair but
I just have to trust that nothing will be damaged.
It also takes a special solvent to remove the old blackout tape. I am taking the car in this morning and will post back with the results. I purchased the tape from my Hyundai parts department thinking it was a metal pillar/applique that I could install myself but boy was I shocked to find out that the finish was no more than this tape and no way I could do the job.

Good info - I wish I had known about this before. As I wrote above, I damaged the factory finish removing a set of chrome covers that I hated after putting them on. I replaced the chrome with black covers that are ok, but I'm not crazy about them. I think I'll check with my body shop to see what they would charge to remove the black covers and restore the factory finish.

I just picked up the car and I must say that the body shop did an excellent job. It looks like they pulled everything apart and put it back together with no problems. The total cost was $15.00 for the Tape and $119.00 labor and materials, Total $134.00. Now I do not know how they would work it for all four doors but I doubt that you would pay $134.00 per door. The job that they did looks just like it was done at the factory.

That's good to hear. I think I'll stop by my body shop- they do great work - and see what they estimate.
