  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bad boy. I'm planning to install chrome side molding to replace the existing body colored molding which is bland looking to me. This trim is only standard on the V8s, correct? In any case, my dealer's parts guy says they do not stock chrome side molding. Huh? What does the body shop use for repairs on V8 cars? I guess a stand alone body shop can get this item. I know I could get this on eBay, but I wonder about quality. Anybody done this trim upgrade?

most trim on any car is not stocked by dealers. Just get your dealer to order it or buy from an online discount dealer.

I didn't know only the V8s had the chrome side trim, but I too want the chrome on my V6. I just ordered an OEM set on ebay for $ 138.99 shipped. Almost the same price for the after-market ones.

Let us know how it works out. I'm reluctant to pluck the painted trim off my brand new car. What if????

There were a few posts on this forum of others who had done the upgrade on their V6s. They reported is was a very simple task and took about 15 minutes to do. I do not anticipate any issues.

Today I found a great car shop here in Midlothian, VA (Richmond) called "The Interior Guys." They do interior rebuilds mostly, but exterior jobs too.
They installed my new Prada wings on my trunk. No muss, no fuss, just $20 cash. It makes no sense to get your hands dirty for 20 bucks!

Bought the Prada wings from Koreanautoimports.com

I may do it all over again with the chrome side trim. They also do dead pedals and repadding, or recovering, console lids to make them elbow friendly.

Supah!

It took all of about 10 minutes to change out the side trim.

I used a plastic putty knife to get the first tab pulled up. To protect the paint I put a piece of of the blue masking tape at the base of the molding and wedged up the putty knife. After that you just pull by hand it it comes right off.

The new pieces push right in in about a minute or so. They line up perfectly. This is very easy to do.

The trim took about 2 weeks to arrive, but for the price I cannot complain.

Thanks, Devil. Sounds great!

I spoke with a local body shop about this and they mentioned that sometimes the clips on the old trim break off as you are removing them and they have to take off interior door panels to remove them. Any broken clips during your removal?

The clips on the stock trim do break off. In reality the clips don't actually break. The clip retainers on the trim pieces break. The clips are left on the door. A 1/4 turn of the clips and they come right out. None of the clips actually fell into the door. I was able to easily remove all the clips from the door's surface.

The new trim comes with new clips already installed. I threw the old trim in the trash when I was completed.

Just bought a 2012 3.8 and wanted to get this added. Dealer said they would install it for free if I could find the parts since they were having trouble locating it. Doesn't make sense to me since it should be the exact same part as on the V-8.

In any event, does anyone have a website they used or an OEM part number for these chrome door strips?

Thanks for the help.

I purchased them on ebay. The set was $138.99 shipped OBO when I purchased mine. I did the OBO at $120 and they took it. They arrived in about 2 weeks and were 100% OEM.

Got it in 1 day and just finished installing. Loving the look. =)

Lou, plz tell us who your vendor was. THNX

Do you happen to have their phone#, or email? Wonder if they do installs?

I have used and had communication with this vendor. He is honest and has the products as advertised. My 2 cents..

I dont know if they do installs but installation was really easy. I did it at 9pm in the dark outside and was able to finish in 15 minutes.

I pulled the trigger and ordered from the same vendor as Lou. Paid on the 11th, shipped on the 12th, at my office by the end of business on the 14th. If only my emblems from KDM would come this fast. Been two weeks since they "shipped" from Korea...still waiting. Thanks for the information on this.
