If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Re: Cleaning?

No problem. Let me know how it works out. I think you'll be impressed.

Sorry for the delay but I'm currently out of town and its been a few days since I've been online If you go to:
http://www.chemicalguys.com/
they have some pictures of my Genny in the "testimonials" section at the bottom of the page. When I get back in town I will see if I can post some better pictures. So far the Genny is running perfect and the shine looks great!

Help!

Anyone know what the hell might be causing the white crap left on my car after I wash it by hand?

I use the Mr. Clean carwash which has worked great for years.

Also have a new filter.

It covers most of my car including my windows and as you can tell by the picture, it rubs off with my finger............

Did you have rain x on your windows previously?

Re: Help!

Any chance of improper dilution? Are you using a mitt or just a power washer/foam gun apparatus thing?

I use a mitt to wash the car once the car wash soap is sprayed on.......

Re: Help!

Yeah, that's the one. Love it:) It's worked awesome for years...............................until now????
I've never used it so I can't say. There is a proper way that pros wash cars, and it's not with that thing, that's all I'll say.

Re: Cleaning?

I have never used Zaino, I have heard that it is an excellent product. The only draw back seems to be how long it lasts, weeks instead of months. Autpoia.com has good review section on these products.

Anyone who only gets weeks out of Zaino is not applying it correctly - they're arguably the best products on the market and are what have "inspired" many competing boutique products. When layered and applied correctly (using ZFX, etc.) it will last for many, many months... longer than anything I've seen.

I wash, claybar, apply one coat of Z5, two coats of Z2 then top with Z-CS. I did this to my wife's car a year ago and the water beads and it cleans up like the day I applied it. The only thing I did was apply another coat of Z-CS six months ago (which just wipes on and dries.)

A couple of asides.... don't use a chamois - they trap dirt and will scratch your paint. Use a waffle microfiber (Cobra is great) instead. Also, you don't need a compound to remove water etching or other minor imperfections, in most cases. A good AIO (All In One) polish such as ZAIO should do the trick without the harshness of traditional compound.

As for the Mr. Clean kit - I use it on my 45' motorcoach when we're at resorts. It's quick, easy and leaves a very nice spot-free shine. The downside is it burns through filters quickly (especially on a large bus.) To those who bought them on Woot - make sure you get extra filters. They come with a "starter" filter, which from my experience, is enough to get you through one car wash (if you're lucky.)

Many have mentioned "Woot". What is Woot?

.....And yes, Mr. Clean does go through filters fast which sucks since they're around $5 a piece.

Re: Cleaning?

Regarding scottdk's white residue - just a few ideas:

1: What are you using to wash/dry the car with - towels, etc? Have they been through the clothes washer & dryer by any chance? Most fabric softeners and/or dryer anti-static sheets contain silicon which leaves a haze on painted surfaces.

2: Got a water softener that might be screwing up?

Have a water softner, but I would not be qualified to identify if it was causing the problem.]

As stated above, washing the car with the Mr. Clean car wash deal and using a soft mitt.

Drying is with a California squeegee, or nothing at all.

Not been through the laundry...................

The starter kit is supposed to cover 3 washes, although it's unknown how big of a car they consider to be one wash. For an RV, that probably is at least 3 cars' worth! Hard to tell though since the starter filters don't have an indicator window.

Mr. Clean works well for a quick maintenance wash. The soap has a sheeting action that might do more to prevent spotting than the deionized water probably does. Sure beats just hosing off the dirt with a garden hose ;)

Buy.com has 2 starter kits for $13.99 plus applicable tax and free shipping. That should be good for up to 6 washes: http://www.buy.com/prod/mr-clean-au...mble-mcc0aa-2-pack/q/loc/66357/211466550.html

Re: Cleaning?

I have used the "Mr. Clean Kit" ever since it came on the market. I have found it to be the best way of getting salt off my boat and it saves me over an hour of drying time. I had the same residue problem and when I called their hot line they told me that it was wash/wax residue and that it would rub right off. I found that after the wash/wax I just used the rinse setting for awhile longer and then the spot free setting. This cut down on the residue almost completetly. I have not tried it yet on the Genny.

Re: Cleaning?

I like the mr clean kit for quick clean ups...
