If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Dear all: Recently I noticed that bird droppings and other unidentified "goo" has etched the clear coat on my 2015 genesis sedan in around an 8 hr period. Here is the scenario: went to work on a clean car, after work (8hrs) noticed the bird dropping/goo, drove home (~30 mins) placed a microfiber towel on the area and dowsed it with clean water, waited for it to soften and then wiped-off.

Upon asking Hyundai/Genesis I was told this damage is not covered by warranty. I find it highly abnormal that the clear coat would be damaged in this fashion on such a short time.

Is this in the opinion of the collective normal/expected or is the clear coat on my vehicle abnormally soft/weak?

Our other cars (Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, Lotus and Ducati) had never suffered this.

Which part of the car? My Gen 1 had clear coat issues on the bumpers.

The Kia/Hyundia line all seem to have this problem. Particularily dark colors. Very short period of time that bird goo sticks before some damage occurs. I guess just not a quality clear coat. Dealers all say, normal and not in warranty. Think if many of us protest to company directly they might take action.

Had the same problem with my '15 genny - Not sure if it was bird goo - or maybe some vandalism.

I had some success with scratch remover and polishing compound - the problem (hood - right front) is still there, but not so noticeable. A body shop could probably cure the problem if you're looking for like new appearance.

So another thing on the 2015 Genesis I have that is not as good as my 2007 Sonata Limited. Oh well. I was not impressed with the paint on Hyundai cars built in Ulsan.

We have to remember that bird droppings are extremely acidic and has to be remove asap.

I always try to remove bird doo and insect debris ASAP, but sometimes that is not possible. In the Houston sun (and lots of birds), you have very little time. I am very fortunate that I have a garage at home and covered parking at work.

It should go without saying that one should wax the car with a good synthetic polymer car wax when it is new. Don't use harsh detergents on the car, as that will strip off much of the wax (there are specially formulated car wash detergents available that don't remove wax). Don't use a carnauba wax, which will come off the surface if you just look at it the wrong way.

This will lesson the effect of any bird droppings, and should be able to remove them with a decent cleaner was as I mentioned above.

Refer to my post today..PatrickOn my 2014 white Genesis, purchased new on April, 2014 with 23,000 miles
I Noticed today 7/24/17 that the Clear Coat on the top of the rear bumper is coming apart. There were also yellow streaks and dots on the bumper that appear to be under the Clear Coat. I brought this back to my dealer and was told told warranty on paint is 3 years or 36,000 miles. I asked about Good Will ad I have recommended people to this dealer and was told they would submit it to Hyundau for approval. I found out from other sources that this problem exists especially on the Hyundai Coupe, and has been reported on other models
And that it is felt that it is caused by the bumpers flexing. I was wondering if anyone has anybody thoughts, ideas etc?
Thoughts...Could this be considered anti-perforation, which is covered for 84 months. Or have there been any recalls on this problem.
ALL THOUGHTS ARE APPRECIATED THANK YOU

Due to changes in environmental regulations, the quality of auto paint jobs is not as good as it once was. Automakers are now using waterborne paints, instead of solvent based paints, in order to reduce the amount of chemicals released into the atmosphere when the paint dries.

Dear all: Thanks for the many replies.

I understand bird droppings are bad for the paint and should be removed asap. I also understand the damage can be remedied (or at least minimized) with rubbing compounds, polishers, etc. What I have trouble with is paying 50K for a car that gets damaged so easily by droppings. My other cars (way less expensive) never exhibited such problem even if I didn't get to wash them right away.

In this case the damage (which is quite visible and apparently deep-mostly on the hood) happened in the span of an 8 hour period (got to work on a clean car, drove home with bird poop on it, soaked it with a microfiber towel/water (to dissolve the solids), and BAM!!! there is deep and severe etching already.

How can a flagship car, trying to compete with BMW and the like have such crummy finish?

I emailed corporate and, expecting better service from a company that is trying to prove itself, got the corporate legal, distant, cold and disappointing reply that is not covered. Actually the email I received states (this is a direct quote) "We are sometimes unable to produce an automobile wit the features and materials the will satisfy or appeal to all of our customers" This statement clearly implies that they know of this paint job issue...Of course they followed this statement with the "Damage from fallaout, chips, blah, blah are not covered" which in my opinion is their way to wiggle away from their responsibility to the customer.

So I agree, if we all complain, maybe we can get the service we deserve as paying (for an expensive product) customers.

I had a very similar situation. The clear coat on my genesis was out of the 36k warranty by 1k miles and was deteriorating but they wouldn't do anything about it. Very unfortunate because this impacted me referring this product when people asked about my car.
