  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have notified Hyundai Customer Care given case #22660413. Was told no recall except on Genesis with white paint, our Genesis is Manhattan Brown. This defect is ONLY located at the base of the trunk lid. Will include a picture with this post. Would appreciate any feedback on this problem.

Took 2016 Genesis to my auto Body Works Co was told this is a removable plastic piece. It can be removed stripped, totally refinished. Received no financial assistance from Hyundai.

I received this reply "We apologize for your experience and would like to assist in getting your vehicle inspected by a Hyundai dealership. Our factory trained technicians will be able to inspect and diagnose why your 2016 Genesis has the paint fading on the trunk. They will also be able to confirm any warranty coverage that may be applicable.

To locate your nearest dealer, please visit Hyundai Dealer Locater | Dealerships Near Me | Hyundai USA to schedule your appointment."

Would you call Hyundai and file a claim, they will give you a case #. If more owners notify Hyundai about this issue they may offer financial help to correct this problem. Then post on this forum your answer from Hyundai. Hopefully it will benefit all of us. Thank-you.

I took my Genesis to Dick Smith Hyundai and was told to take it to someone to correct the problem by painting the trunk. My appointment to have this done is in March.

We had to repair our Genesis out of pocket. Hyundai was not willing to help with the repair even through I believe it was a defect when the car was first painted.

(2015 white 3.8 AWD)

My whole front and rear bumpers have been peeling off and turning yellow for 3+ years and even had local Hyundai take tons of pictures and send to Hyundai corp. and they took 2 weeks to review and wrote back the "sorry, but we won't cover this issue" letter to the local Hyundai. So as of today the peeling is worse and at some point the layers peeling off will be all gone leaving just the white undercoat. Just one of many issues with the vehicle.

My white 2015 started peeling on the front bumper 3 years ago. After 5 years of ownership and 130k miles of exposure to the sun (it was never garaged) - the clearcoat started flaking off the plastic front bumper cover. It was annoying - but I couldn't fault Hyundai for it too much considering it is a plastic cover and how it was exposed for so long. Plastic is never a good medium to retain body paint over the long term. need to go with fiberglass or actual sheetmetal if you want it to last.

I had it sanded and re-shot just before I turned traded it in. A good body shop can do it with a solid paint/fade match for 2-300.

My black 2015 Genesis (3.8 AWD) has bad paint fade on the trunk lid applique. You can buy a new applique piece for around $200 - but it's white - so it needs to be painted anyway. Body shop says they would just repaint the existing applique...$417. The rest of my vehicle is in excellent condition so the trunk lid applique really stands out in the worst possible way.

We ended up taking our Genesis to body shop to have trunk panel painted. It should have been a recall and cost covered because the clear coat is defective.
