  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

204hp 2.2l I-4 diesel w/ 204hp (overseas only)
Optional 3.5l Lambda V6 w/ 270-280hp and 6-speed manual or auto
And there are plans for a wagon variant as well with plans to sell it in North America (something the competition no longer offers, except the Passat)
Official debut is in 2 weeks. It goes on sale in Korea 10/2009 and the 1st quarter of 2010 in North America

Regarding the wagon and competition.......

Thank you for posting up the additional pictures! This new Sonata is looking better and better...

Tastes great and probably less filling too. Nice pics jwaters943. Hyundai clearly has their house in order. I think they are gonna come out of this recession smelling like a rose.

Indeed. Every car out of Hyundai / Kia lately is a winner...

Have you guys seen the new VG and Optima? Damn impressive IMO!

I may be seriously looking at a Kia for the first time ever if they are as impressive in the flesh. My local Kia dealership is WAY nicer (and newer) than our Hyundai dealership.

I've been watching Kia very closely.. In fact, I think I should rename this section to allow both discussions regarding Hyundai AND Kia - since they're owned by the same organization and closely-tied...

I really like the look of the new Sonata.

I find the front end of the new Sonata looks a little like the 2010 Ford Fusion, especially the wide 3 slat grille. Looks very sharp.

I always wondered about the the relationship between between Hyunai and Kia...is it similar to the divisional set up at the US car companies?

Sort of like Ford and Lincoln.. Ford is the main company and they sell cars - just like Hyundai.. Lincoln is owned by Ford like Kia is owned by Hyundai..

I prefer the more less busy lines of the new VG and Optima (to me, Kia, under Peter Schreyer, has a more well-rounded "corporate look" than the upcoming Hyundais - the new Sportage will likely be less polarizing than the new Tuscon).

Not quite.

Lincoln is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford.

Kia is only partly owned by the holding company which also owns Hyundai Motors w/ the ownership stake presently being about 38% after some divestiture from a high of 51%.

The relationship is more akin to Ford w/ Mazda - just w/ a larger ownership stake.

I'm seeing similarities between the Sonata and VW CC, which itself has similarities to the CLS. Some 'critics' are calling the Sonata 'derivative', but I see nothing wrong with borrowing from 2 beautiful cars. Especially when it makes the CamCord look boring in comparison.

They're taking a risk with this design, but I trust they know what they're doing. This could be a home run.

Thank you for the explanation, YEH. Otherwise, Hyundai could design a car nicer than a Ferrari or Lamborghini - and people would still find ways to hate it. Silly humans...

Lots of pictures floating around.. Here's a new one of the rear...
