  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Clicking Noise between 25-30ml on the road.

I have this exact sound too only noticeable at around 25mph, and ONLY when cruising (foot off the gas, off the brake and car decelerating through 27-23mph range).

If I touch the gas or brake the sound is gone immediately. If I open the window, i thought I could hear it more clearly coming from the right side of the car, but I cannot. I hear it clearest with the windows up.

Anyone else notice these things?

Take it up to 80+ and crank up some Led Zeppelin and you won't hear a thing :D

Got the same fault here as well on RWD 3.8. I've often wondered what it is! I was just at the dealership for my 1st oil service and asked them to look at the parking sensors issue that randomly goes off and all they said is that it didn't happen with them thus there's no problem. Quite disappointed for a brand that aspires to be a luxury brand.

Mine makes the same noise between about 35 and 25 MPH. It's most noticeable when decelerating. It doesn't change with engine speed (sounds the same in 3rd and 4th gear). It also doesn't seem to change when steering, although I haven't had a chance to test this much (gentle, sweeping corners only; no sharp turns). It's unaffected by tire pressure (from -1 to +4 psig). It doesn't disappear all at once, but progressively gets quieter as the engine warms up.

My Genesis is now making the same clicking/fluttering noise. Dealer could not duplicate noise. Does anyone know what the dealer did to resolve this issue?

Hello,

I live in Germany, so please excuse my bad english.

I had the same issue when cruising between 28 mph and 31 mph. The rattle was independent from the engine speed and occurred also when rolling in neutral at this speed range. The noise was best heard when the lid of the center console was open.

After the dealer replaced the propeller shaft the rattle was gone. But since then, I’ve an annoying drone when driving faster than 120 mph. Wish I had kept the rattle instead of the drone at german cruising speed. :-(

did you test the car in autobhan ? :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Same here (From Vancouver Canada)

My 3.8 HTRAC has it happen between 40 ~ 45 km/h and it's worse after cold start up. It persists after warm up but a bit quieter.

It's most obvious when you are cruising down from higher speeds and you can definitely hear it as it slows down through 45 ~ 40 km/h range and disappears.

Would love to find out if more people are having similar issues so that Hyundai will address some sort of a recall soon...

My car is literally at the dealer right now and they are trying to diagnose this problem. I am just shy of 60K miles so i wanted to get it in for warranty issues.
I posted a separate thread on this but no fix was identified. In this thread, it seems (a) replace the engine (b) fix propeller shaft and(c) get hyundai tech involved (not sure what they did).

Anything else?

There is nothing to test, the autobahn is commonplace. My best ride was last year in August, when it took me 32 minutes for the 62 miles on the A4 between Jena and Eisenach. That was an average speed of 116 mph. Very funny to drive with the Genny. :D

But back to the thread: I was totally surprised that this problem appears with so many cars. I always believed that I’m affected alone. By the way: My Genny is 1 of about 100 total in Germany.

Greetings from germany

You might want to check to see if they installed the covers back on correctly. It might be hitting somewhere and transferring the drone effect inside the car.

My dealer involved hyundai tech and they asked him to mount the wheels from a demonstration car to rule out a problem with the rims and tires. Of course, it was not the wheels!

Next, the dealer should replace the wheel bearings at the rear axle. Also showed no improvement!

Crazy, the drone appeared for the first time after the change of the propeller shaft but somehow they refuse to see.

Mine does it too - 2016 3.8 RWD. I figure if it's anything significant then something will fail at some point. It's not worth taking to the dealer to tell me they can't duplicate it until it does.

I received a message from the dealer. Hyundai want to change the rear differential now. Let's see.

Greetings

My car is scheduled for service this coming Monday for the fluttering noise. Will keep ya posted.

Same problem here, started at ~9000 miles on odo. Subscribed to this thread.

Dealer will install new driveshaft assembly. I believe the assembly is comprised of two shafts that are connected together. Included is the propeller shaft. Assembly is on order and will probably be installed on Monday(Dec 5). Will let you know the outcome.

Went to dealership this morning. Car was on lift. Technician showed me the electronic instrument(sensor with long wire and headset) he used to locate the precise location of noise. The noise is originating from the propeller shaft which is almost directly located underneath the armrest console. So that's why when you open up the console the noise is more pronounced. The entire driveshaft comes an unit/assembly. I asked tech about what is actually inside the propeller shaft unit. I don't remember exactly what he said what the inner workings were inside the propeller unit but grease or fluid is not used as a lubricate. He said it is more like a clay-substance used to coat the inner workings. He did not know if inner workings were worn or there was an insufficient amount of clay like substance was the problem. Hyundai said replace the entire driveshaft assembly and not just propeller shaft. Part on order and should be installed by this Monday. Keep ya posted.

I'm having the same issue during initial start traveling under 30mph seem to go away after warm up. Hope we get this resolved
