  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Now, I KNOW I saw a thread about this a while back(when it wasn't an issue for me), but all my searching has turned up nothing.

The very specific issue I have: When first hitting the gas from a stop, or suddenly letting off the gas while driving(so applying sudden load, or suddenly releasing all the load), there's a reasonably loud click. Sort of like a CV joint click, but it's not constant in any situation, it's a single click when applying or removing the load.

I believe there was a thread here about this specific issue at one point, and I hope others have had/resolved this as I currently don't have time to dig in and diagnose it in the garage, but would love to at least have some direction. Thanks for any help, guys!

No one really? I swear there was a thread with like 10 people saying they had this symptom a while back. :(

I'm just going to give this a happy little bump in hopes that someone who has had this issue sees it and can say for certain what might be causing it.

In my experience, this would typically be from a bad U-Joint but I'm assuming they cannot be bought as I can't find them anywhere.

my 09 does something similar where when i first accelerate in drive or reverse, it will let out a single click. That makes me think one of the rear suspension arms is probably worn and causing excessive movement when loaded up when throttle is first applied. i haven't jacked it up yet to check everything out yet.

If it's a clicking that goes along with vehicle speed then it's more likely to be a CV joint or U joint so i wouldnt think that's what the issue is, but I've been wrong before, just ask my wife.

My 09, 4.6 does the exact same thing being described. I was looking at the car in a parking lot and thought the front left, which *is* the side the noise comes from, was lower by about an inch. I took it to my shop, they put their best tech on it and he said it's fine But he did notice a broken spring in the front. I ordered two new quikstruts with springs and my shop is installing them friday. I shall report back with results.

My '12 does it but not when accel/ decel. It happens when I back out of my driveway. It sounds like its coming from the front.

On a side note, I do hear a clicking noise when I put it into R or D when its idling just under 1k. My transmission is remanufactured with about 5k miles on it. Tranny seems fine, but that noise bothers me.

Okay guys it is 100% positively the springs and struts. My shop said I had a broken spring around my driverside strut. I had them replace both sides front struts and springs and the click noise has gone away entirely. I've put about 3500 miles on since the fix and I also railed a pothole at 85 mph since then. The pothole caused the vehicle to lose balance so I put a set of rims from a 2018 g80 base onto my 09 4.6. 20181121_124612.webp

Where did you get your quikstruts? I also have an 09, it has 133,500 mi in it.

Ordered from ebay, I will try to upload a screenshot of the purchase. My shop had told me to be sure to order the entire assembly, spring and strut, they called it "quickstrut". I just reached 139k and noticed my front left is doing a slight rattling over snowy roads and on occasional potholes. I don't think it's loose enough yet to be figured out by a shop. It gets exasperated by all the snow making the roads extra bumpy. Still rides perfect on the highway, just rattles a tad at low speed. I figure I'll give until summer before looking into it. Any ideas what that could be? Lol

If I had to guess what the "slight rattling" is, I would say it is worn control arm bushings. My car does the same thing, but haven't got around to repairing. I have read other posts that users had bought sets from eBay as they were much cheaper and they had good results with them
