  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but if that is the case I have not been able to find it.....I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8 with Tech package. When I use the Mode button to select the direction of airflow (in this case, floor) I get nice warm air in winter for a few minutes. Then feel cold air coming at me from the dash vents and then the defrost. I have the Auto button turned off. It's like it won't stay where I put it and has a mind of its own. If I am operating in manual mode and select where I want the air to discharge, I expect it to stay there until I do something to change it. I referred to the owners manual and I might as well have been trying to read Chinese....it made no sense to me at all and in fact it really didn't address my issue.

I have had the car for six months and it is winter here on the East Coast. I don't want cold air blowing on me on a 30 degree day.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong or not doing something that I should be doing to make this thing operate properly.

What gives? Can anyone out there offer some help.

Thanks

What happens when you leave it set to AUTO and select 73°?

But the way, since you are new to the car, be sure your back seat Heat/AC dials are set properly. It's a separate zone back there. I keep mine set to off unless I have a passenger back there.

My 2012 5.0 with Tech package will always go into defrost mode for a period of time during warm up in the winter where it will discharge aupply air to the front windshield defrost to clear the front windshield of condensation. It only happens once during warm up and goes on for a short time then reverts back to floor, heat and never repeats itself unless conditions form condensation on the front windshield. I find it to be a convenience, but occasionally it goes a bit longer then necessary.

I don't know what happens in Auto and 73 degrees. Will be cold tomorrow here and I'll try it. But why 73 degrees?

My car will switch from floor to defrost every few minutes then I have to change it back. I wouldn't have a problem if it only did it once during warm up.

Also, thanks for the tip on the rear vents. I discovered that during the summer when the rear was putting out hot air when I had the AC on.

Thanks for the responses.

I have a 2014 genesis sedan 3.8 with the Tech Pkg and it does not operate the way you describe yours as operating..

Yes I turn the rear zone off when there isn't a passenger back there but other than that when I sent the temp, normally 77/78 when it's very cold out..( Staten Island, NY ) it stay's where I set it..

In the auto mode it shows directed at the floor and stays there unless I lower the temp...73/74 in which it will direct the heated air through the top vents..

When the car reaches the lowest set temp, it will normally blow to the floor if its above 75...any lower it goes through the top vents...I do notice it will Automatically select Top & Bottom Mix occasionally..

It sounds like you may be having a problem with the control module below the Nav unit? If I manually set mine to blow at the floor or upper vents or a mix of top & bottom it will stay there..

Both the 2013 & 2014 models have the same controls and mine operates like Hyundai says it should in the manual..

It may be worth taking a trip to the dealer and have it looked at..

I live in Virginia and it is very cold here now. I set the temperature at 73 and push Auto like PMCErnie suggested above. For some strange reason that I don't understand the floor vent selection holds. When Auto is turned off at 73 degrees the floor vent selection holds for the most part but still wants to jump around some. I am scheduled for an oil change and tire rotation and I think I will have it checked out because the system is certainly not effortless like it should be. I am sure warranty will cover whatever the problem is.

Thanks for everyone's help. I will report back to the forum once I visit the dealer.

Went to the dealership for oil change, tire rotation and to have the climate control issue looked at. Was told that some of the control buttons were "sticking", although it wasn't obvious to me. They made some adjustments and told me come back if I experienced any more trouble. Took a week long business trip this week and had ample opportunity to try it out. Seems to be alright now but time will tell.
