Closing windows after shutting off car

Hi everyone,

On all of the cars I've previously owned I was able to roll up/down the windows for about a minute after shutting off the ignition. However, my 2015 Genesis doesn't have this ability. If I forget to roll up a window and turn off the car I have to turn it back on at least to the "ON" position before I'm able to operate the windows again.

Is this just how the car functions or is something wrong?

You should have some power for about 30 seconds after you turn the car off to close the windows (not the sunroof though). However, that stops once any of the doors are open.

I too had cars that were better at this. I also miss the ability to open the windows with the fob (Infiniti and SAAB did this; with the SAAB, you could also lower the roof, very cool).

The only power that remains on after the car is shut off but before a door is opened is the Radio/Navigation. Other than that nothing else works in the car.

I am traveling so i can't check until I get home. Maybe someone else can confirm. Which packages do you have? I can't imagine it would vary but maybe it does?

first world problems lol. im so used to my old pos neon with only two power windows and the only way to move them up or down is to have the key in the "on" position.

So, the front were power and the rears were manual? that's classic. My kids have no idea what manual windows are.

Sounds like your car has a problem.

Page 3-40 of the owner's manual says: "The power windows will operate for approximately 30 seconds after the Engine Start/Stop button is placed in the ACC or OFF position. However, if the front doors are opened, the Power Windows cannot be operated even within the 30 second period."

You should have it checked out by your dealer.

I tested mine this afternoon, and yes my windows went down after I turned the ignition off. The radio was still playing. windows went down and up. stopped as soon as I opened the door.

My mom has a 2009 Corolla with manual windows, when she bought it new I told her not to do it but she went with the base model (w/o power windows) just to save some money. As today everytime I ask her about that decision she says that opening the windows does not bother her at all.

That's hilarious. While I appreciate the simpleness and nostalgia factor, I love to roll all the windows down to circulate air and especially love the full Auto feature.

That said, I am not sure why anyone hasn't put an "ALL WINDOWS" button to make it easier. You'd think with the electronics, it'd be easy to do. As it stands now, I routinely push the front two and the rear two buttons at the same time (if my fingers were more flexible, I could do all four...).

Another thought I had was to put the turn indicators on the steering wheel so that you could activate the signals without taking your hand off the wheel. Then, low and behold a company does do that (along with many other driving switches) - FERRARI! I love it.

I would never again want that "feature" on my fob. I had a Lexus that did and after a 4th of July party/fireworks I went back to my car to find all my windows down and sunroof open. Apparently I stooped down long enough to open everything up as bottle rockets and fireworks were flying over my car. Thankfully no damage, but I did have the dealer deactivate that "feature".

i have a BASE genesis and the power windows still roll up/down after i turn off the engine.

Kind of off topic but is there a way to turn off the navigation screen without opening driver door after turning off engine?

1- sounds like the OP was opening the doors when testing this, and many many many cars turn off all of the convenience power when a door is open.
2- if that's someone's biggest complaint about an automobile, I'd say we're doing just fine.

and 3- on the topic of the steering wheel buttons, if your hands are in the optimal driving positions such as they would be in a Ferrari, you extend your finger 2 inches to activate a traditional signal switch...... Seriously, I don't know if you're driving at 12o'clock like a homeboy or what, but if you are removing a hand from the wheel to indicate your lane changes, you're doing it wrong.

On the ultimate (with the dis knob), there is a medium size button labeled display on the right side of the cd slot. All it seems to do is blank/unblank the nav screen.

My 2018 G80 Sport disables the window switches immediately after turning off the ignition. Like the OP, this is not the case with even the crappiest of cars I’ve owned in the past. It must be a setting somewhere..... even my dealer (who drove the car for six months as his own) agrees that that’s “just the way it goes”.

Seems odd.

I don’t have a G80 but if it works the same as mine, it disables the windows when you open the drivers door NOT when ignition goes off. So if you sit in the car anyone can open and close their windows as long as you don’t open the drivers door. I think eventually it will lock though. Radio too will keep play, just don’t just out. If this is different than my car, I’m sure someone speak out fast enough.
