  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Drove about 200+ miles today in eco mode and never "coasted." How do you get this to activate and where does it show up that it is activated? Thanks

Not necessarily. I've driven my G70 3.3T 1300 miles and I've only seen the "Coasting" notice once on the IP for about 5 seconds and I'm almost always in Eco mode and seldom in a hurry. Perhaps if I was in hillier terrain...
Enjoy,

Found the "coasting function" tonight just surfing through the menu on my G70. Will have to give it a try. I live in Ky, so I have plenty of hills. I'm surprised at the mileage I'm getting with my 3.3t, easy to average over 25 and my best was 31 highway, coasting will help also.

I've tried ECO mode a few times (with coasting enabled) and have yet to see it coast, even going down a long hill. Maybe the grade was too steep. I guess I still haven't satisfied all the requirements for coasting.

I bet you're right - usually if the grade is too steep I notice that it will not coast, usually only happens on a very mild grade, or even when it's flat and I'm being consistently gentle on the gas pedal.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If you have cruise ON or SET it will not coast.

I also see a ton more coasting events after upgrading the G70 to firmware 13.5

When you updated, was there a revision history telling you what all is changing similar to what most software updates to our phones do? My vehicle is not yet showing so I’m not eligible for a update just yet. I’m not a fan of surprises with software updates for rarely can you go backwards if something changed you did not like. Think Apple here since they love to make all kinds of changes with varying amounts of transparency.

Yes, there are release notes for every version. You can get them on the MapNSoft site.

Did some coasting this evening. My DD is a Chevy Cruze Eco with 6 speed manual, I do a lot of coasting. There's one section I coast for 2 miles. Tried my G70 there, it didn't get the 2 miles but it was close. Descending down the same hill in Comfort mode lost speed much quicker. The "coasting function" really does work well. Also, mine says "coasting" at the top of display.

^^ I noticed this as well. When the car goes into "coasting" with the AWD, you can feel it has less resistance.

I had never seen my car go into Coast, and started to wonder if it might not be working. Then yesterday I figured it out as I was driving - it will only coast if you've just lifted off the gas. At first this may sound obvious, but if the last thing you did was to touch the brakes (which would be normal after, say, going down a hill and then leveling off), it will not coast, even if all the other criteria are met. Tap the gas pedal and then it coasts.
After re-reading the manual, I saw that this is basically stated in the first sentence, it just wasn't intuitive (to me at least).

Also, I hate it but once you really get going and the grade is over 5% it re-couples the trans and slows you down.

is there any harm to trans with coasting? extra wear and tear or perfectly safe?

Same wear to the torque converter as when you are sitting still at a light, i.e. the coupler is unlocked and spinning freely.

Moreover, I'd think less wear in the entire power train since you are no longer connected to the rear end of the car or the AWD system....

Hi guys, I posted about this issue last year, and I finally have an update.

Previously I wrote:

I had my my G70 3.3T in for servicing (first scheduled service on February 12, 2019) and they updated the coasting software. Immediately I noticed that the car no longer coasts when I take the foot off the gas. In other words, I notice immediate and sustained deceleration as soon as I let of the gas as opposed to before where it would coast for a good minute losing maybe 5-10 km/h on a flat surface.

I asked them about it and they had no clue...

I keep it on Eco most of the time. To give you a good example of one of my drives, I drove from Tampa to Toronto in one continuous drive. Engine temp should definitely not have been an issue and outside temperatures ranged from 27C (80F) to -5C (23F) on relatively flat ground. It should have triggered a whole bunch of times during this drive.

Before the update I could frequently see the 'Coasting' notification come up on the info cluster.

Update:

After I complained a bunch of times, Genesis told me that they could put the older version of the software back on my car if I bring it in, or I they could fix it during my next scheduled upgrade.

Well, it came time for the second service and they picked my car up over two weeks ago. Here is what I found out after I told them to fix the eco-coast feature...
1. This feature was apparently causing a lot of strain on the transmission as it triggered too often, so they 'corrected' it so that it triggers as intended.
2. Rolling back to a previous version of the software is not on option as it makes you ineligible for all future software updates
3. Apparently it now triggers according to the conditions set forth in the manual and I am the only person that has complained about this to them. (I am certain it originally worked as intended and stated in the manual, but they realized it would cause them trouble down the line so they just neutered the feature).

They have offered to let me test drive a car at factory settings and my updated car with a technician tomorrow so I can show them the difference but I have a sneaky suspicion that they will just have me drive two updated cars and I wont be able to identify the difference. Anyone have any ideas how to confirm which software version both cars are running?

I have only seen my 2019 G70 3.3T coast once in the 4 months I've owned it and that was for about 5 seconds. I did the 13.5 S/W upgrade about 2 weeks ago and it sounds like it may never happen again...
Enjoy,
