  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I got in my 09 4.6/tech this morning and had a couple of issues.
First the audio did not work at all. The screen for FM came on but no sound and no volume control.
Then switched to XM Sat and got message to "check antenna" and no sound and the volume level does not show on the display screen.
Also the driver side seat heater does not come on, the passenger side seems to work ok.
I can turn the audio on and off via the power/volume control and the map works but no sound at all.
I didn't want to try the cd player...
Temp is a cool -15 deg C
I've only had the car for 2 weeks, Is this a common problem or do I need to be concerned about this

I've had this problem before in cold weather. Restarting the car solved it for me. I've seen others with the same problem as well. I've also had the system reboot on me once or twice - very annoying since it usually happens when I'm using the GPS and have no idea how to get to my destination

I guess it would help if I say what year/model I drive :-) 2011 3.8 with Tech.

I've seen my system reboot once before. Never had any of the other problems.

Sounds like you need a road trip several hundred miles south :D

I could live without the music for the drive to work but I needed that seat heater !!
Hopefully it's just a cold weather issue...

Operating temp for the system is -20°C~ +70°C (-4°F ~ 158°F)

I could certainly see the cold impacting most systems... let the car warm up a bit before jamming away...

Seat heater circuit might be something else. I'd recommend letting the dealer look at that unless your comfortable digging through schematics.

right now it's still -23C with the wind chill, so I'm hoping it all comes back when it warms up again.
Unfortunately that isn't supposed to happen anytime soon :(

2009's and 2010's occasionally have the "silent amp" bug. I've had it two or three times in FL on a hot sunny afternoon (>95F), and after overnight garaged startup (75F) so I don't believe it is directly temperature related, but I'd concede it's certainly possible. Anecdotal evidence (numerous other posts in this forum) suggests that doing too many things to the car immediately upon startup (closing doors, locks windows, DIS control, HVAC buttons, etc.), or starting up inside a garage where the GPS can't see satellites can confuse the computer. Every time it happened to me I was hitting the DIS button to clear the nag screen almost the same time it popped up after the flying "H" boot logo.

Letting the car sit off for a couple hours has always reset it for me.

Since you have a 2009 you are probably out of 3/36 warranty on the radio. But if you have an extended Hyundai warranty that covers the head unit and amp AND it becomes a chronic problem, then video it on your cell phone and show it to the dealer.

as an update last night almost everthing worked.
The satellite radio and FM worked.
The driver side seat heater came on but turned off again after 5 minutes.
and would not come on.
I restarted the car and it came back on for another 5 minutes.
Still very cold here -16C this morning so I'm not sure if it is still temp. related
or something I should be calling my dealer about.
Any ideas ??

Sounds like you have a problem with the seat heater. If you're running it on high, it could be protecting itself from overheating. My old Accord did this, but once it cooled down it would allow you to run it back on high by cycling it off and back on. I've run my seat heaters on high and it doesn't ever seem to shutoff until I shut it off or turn it down (it gets hot!). I also have a 2009.

For the stereo, sounds like you had the infamous "no sound" bug. Check the forums you'll find lots of discussion. I guess I've been lucky and only experienced it once after using my voice commands locked up it up:rolleyes: I've only had my 09 since September. There is a TSB that you can ask your dealer to perform next time your in for whatever reason, but it doesn't seem to be an absolute fix:o

Thanks snork, through these forums i have found that there may be a problem with the heat breather tube being crushed in the seat causing the heater to shut down and there is a fix with some spring replacement in the seat.
I will be following up with my local dealer...

Wind chill does not affect inanimate objects----------other than to bring them down to the actual temp a little quicker. If the actual air temp is -20C or warmer, things should be working.

Where are you located?
I had the same heated seat problem as you, and would shut off at 5 minutes. My dealer replaced the whole ventilation system in the seat base and everything works perfect in the winter now. I can have it on full blast for as long as I can stand.
Haven't had the audio issue. Mine just seems to restart more in extreme warm/cold, but only maybe 5-10 times per year total.
And it is a constant-25C or colder here right now, getting into the -30's and-40's with the windchill.
Mine is garaged at night but usually outside at work for about 8 to 12 hours and almost always plugged in (block heater).

I'm located in Burlington and purchased the car in Markham.
last night the seat warmer stopped after abour 4 minutes,so I restarted the car and it stayed on !!
This morning it shut off again after 5 minutes.
I would think that if it was the "crushed breather tube" problem that the problem would always be there regardless of a restart??
The car is at my local dealer today to have the steering tilt/tele module replaced as the telescoping has not worked since I bought the car.
If I can't re-created the problem I'm sure the dealer won't want to replace the seat ventilation system...

I had the exact same issue as you and I think they either fixed mine the first or second time I brought it in but it wasn't much hassle. I'll try and remember to look up my service records to see if they indicated a specific problem on mine. But all I did was describe the issue and they got the parts and fixed it. I believe the parts were only like 200 bucks so its not a huge warranty claim for them.

Thanks mitch, any information that I can bring to the dealer would help !
So far my local dealer has been great but I don't want to piss him off

Here you go, seems it was a TSB
